Looking for RNY to help keep down my edema will it ?
The surgery itself won't do anything to help with edema, but losing weight and being more active definitely will. I had a lot of swelling and edema from venous insufficiency, and since I've lost weight and started moving more I've noticed a huge improvement. I don't even need to wear my oh-so-stylish support stockings every day now!

What is a leg elevator ? I hate those support socks ! Mine always cut into my legs and I end up taking them off and have huge spots where they cut into me and fluid build up stayed above or below. I had them from medical supply and they measured my legs but they are never comfortable and always hurt instead of help ! I went to BIG BIG BIG trouser socks or BIG BIG BIG knee_highs . I am sure my arthritis does not help the swelling. I sure was hoping the operation would help me with this.
They are like this
You put them on your bed and elevator your feet while you read, listen to music, or sleep (I roll off mine when I sleep..so I defeated their purpose). It has the same effect as laying against the wall (butt to wall) with your legs going up the wall.
My NP recommended the wall trick, once a day for 20 minutes) to help with edema. I like the leg elevator better. More comfortable, more relaxing.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
My edema was much better after I lost a lot of weight, but still not great. I still keep my legs elevated whenever I can. I've had a few procedures on the veins in my legs, because they were in such bad shape. We do a lot of damage to ourselves when morbidly obese. Some is reversible, but not all of it. But everything is at least improved.
