One week and eating is too easy
I had my surgery last Wednesday- Gastric Bypass. Overall feel amazing, get tired sometimes and occasional nausea but good. Monday when I saw the doctor they moved me up to adding yogurt, strained cream soups, farina, SF pudding etc. Over the weekend I was definitely sipping slowly, working to get it in. I thought I would only be able to eat 1/4 of a cup, but I can easily eat 3-4 oz of yogurt or 4 or 5 oz of soup. The shakes can go down now with in 15 minutes. I am worried is my pouch too big, or is it just because it's soft and liquidy that it passed through so easy. They did not tell me to measure anything.

The liquids definitely can get easier pretty quickly.
Do some checking as far as the amount you're to be eating right now. Perhaps it's somewhere in materials you got pre-op? If you can't find it, call your surgeon's office. I think just because you can eat more doesn't mean you should at this point. Every program is different though - so check what your surgeon wants!
Good luck and welcome to the losers' bench. Oh and I think it's highly unlikely that there's anything wrong with your pouch - don't worry!

i thought the same thing! you will know when you ate too fast or too much. TRUST ME. i was able to eat the 5 ounce greek yogurt cup no big deal and i was like noooooo i stretched my stomach back out!! lol. you can't really stretch the pouch back out. people gain weight back because of the amount of CALORIES they consume. and this is the discussion i had with my dietitian at the same time frame you are in about the same foods. and thats what she said to me. and she said the answer comes from a well known surgeon from Miami, FL. they make the pouch out of a very tough part of your stomach so that it does have resistence to stretching back out. you are most likely enjoying the fact that you are no longer ONLY on just a liquid diet and you can start to taste/eat different things now. but. because you are still very early post-op...you really should slow down. my dietitian always said 10 minutes per ounce of food. savor it. because when you start eating more whole foods...its nothing but chew chew chew til the cows come home or else you WILL get sick lol
Thanks, yes, I guess I need to practice...slow down.... I always was a fast eater. Will try to call the dietician tomorrow... just needed some moral support. Thanks again

You are essentially eating liquids. They run through your pouch like a tube. You could sip soup and yogurt all day. We no longer have a pyloric valve that holds food in the stomach. What you are experiencing is totally normal. That is why we are not supposed to eat and drink at the same time. -- except of course when we are on liquids/softs.
