Feeling like I'll never be normal again

I had my surgery on Thursday and felt pretty good yesterday. Now that I'm home however I feel miserable. When should I expect to start feeling normal again?

everyone is different - it took me 2 weeks to be able to sleep in my bed - lazy boy was my best friend. This is major surgery - my doctor told me every day you were in the hospital it takes 2 days to recover. I think that is true. Just keep moving around and keep sipping your water and take your pain meds. Within a week you are going to start to feel like yourself again!! Good luck to you!!

I'll say, I've never understand those who undergo major surgery and seek to bounce back in a day or two. Your body needs to heal-- you may not like it while it does that. There will be ups and owns through the journey-- especially- during recovery.

I think most of us feel like that off and on. I felt completly back to normal energy wise and everything at week 3.5 but off and on I still get flooded with emotion from time to time . The first week you just have to give yourself permission to rest , heal, sip what you can, walk as often as you can. It's all part of the process but you will get through it just like everyone else and we'll be here to help support you and cheer you on!

Hi Sheri.  Trying to make a decision. Docs recommend rny  had band removed.  Your now about a month out. Any major complications or regrets?  (I've had my band since 2008 but had to have it remove moved end of February) although Insur approved rny  I'm still trying to decide about sleeve which seems less radical.  Thanks for your input.

Hello again , I'm certainly enjoying not having my band. I can not say which would be better . I am 6 weeks out and feel like I eat and drink with no pain or restriction as far as choice of food. ( I don't do white trash carbs and do mostly meat eggs cheese and green veggies ) but I feel totally liberated by not having that panic feeling in my throat when trying to eat, compared with the band. I have had zero complications so far. I do find eggs don't agree with me and tuna makes me feel nauseated. I'm happy to have made the choice for rny , as My reflux was terrible and causing real problems, I was headed for Barrett's and have lost a family member to esophageal cancer. Everyone with the sleeve does not experience gerd, but the chances for me were higher. I explained to you about the balloon and high pressure system as my dr compared them to me. It made sense to me and I Was hell bent on a sleeve before I sat down with him. We spent well over an hour talking through every concern I had and we both felt rny was best for me. He did agree that the sleeve is a great tool and the long term weight loss is equal. I do think I had unrealistic expectations as far as how fast the weight loss would be..... 17 lbs in 6 weeks. But I was gaining very very fast while completly unfilled so I knew I had to do something . I'm like 99.9% of rnyers on here that only regret not doing this sooner . Good luck with your decision .

it could take six to eight weeks or more. Certainly more than one day.

Each day gets better. I had surgery a week ago Friday and there is a world of difference from last week at this time. At my post-op appointment on Thursday the doc said I'll be feeling much better next week, but not to let it fool me. As others have said, this is major surgery and expect 4-6 weeks for full recovery.

Surgery Date June 3, 2016

Thank you everyone. I just see so many people posting how great they feel one or two days out and I'm barely moving. My stomach is making so many different noises and I don't know if I'm sipping to slow or to fast. I'm not a patient person and can't wait for some sense of normalcy. Thank you again for giving me some place to discuss my concerns with people who have gone through this.
