Need imput to make this decision please

Ok, I know everyone goes through the last minute jitters.  My surgery is Wednesday 9/14, and I am seriously considering cancelling it.  I need to hear from some of you who were on the lower end of the weight spectrum to be sure I will not end up malnutrition.  I have seen some of you band conversions that were under the 200 mark and now have the RNY, I need to hear about you.

I started around 192 lbs, on day 9 of my pre-op diet I'm now at 179, and feeling like maybe I can just keep doing this???  I am deathly afraid of ending up at 100's and can't turn off the weight loss.  I'm afraid for 75 lbs, I am going to alter my body and regret it.  I have diverticulitis and spent the day yesterday in the ER, because my pre-op diet had me so constipated, they thought I had a blockage.  No blockage, but I bought a $500.00 enema in the ER (my insurance co-pay for ER visits).  I had a ruptured colon 5 yrs ago and was on a colostomy bag for 3 months, I can't go back to that.....EVER.  Constipation is just one of the side effects of this surgery, but for me it's very serious.   I've been ready a lot of complications lately, and really don't know if this is worth putting myself through this.  I'm sick to my stomach thinking about what to do here.

please tell me something, to help me make this decision quickly.

thank you

Only you know what is best and right for you!  I'm going to guess you have lost weight in the past and have gained it back again, like we all have.  You can manage your BMs by being proactive as opposed to reactive.  Work with your dietician and medical team to find the balance that works for you!

Can you maintain that pre-op diet going forward?  Obviously not if your having issues now.  After surgery you will be able to reintroduce foods that will help to keep you going.  I wouldn't worry about losing too much. Its a tool, when you learn to use it I think you'll be happy with the results.

I wish you all the best in you decision making process.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

To be quiet frank- If I were you, with that medical history, I would not do RNY. I'd have done sleeve.

I can't do the Sleeve, I have severe acid reflux.  I have a hiatal hernia that they are also going to repair, but they can't be sure the acid is from the hernia or if I had it before the hernia.  I originally wanted the sleeve, but no.

It is hard to respond without more information. How tall are you? Do you have other co-morbidities? Have you tried and failed other weight loss efforts long term! All of those things should come into play when making a decision this serious.

 Height: 5'7".  HW: 299, Program starting weight: 290, SW: 238, CW 138 - 12 pounds under goal!

I'm 5'1" and yes I have tried to diet many times.  Problem is I love food.  I have pre-diabetes, my mother is insulin dependent diabetic, I have hi cholesterol, triglycerides  and BP, in addition to the bad acid reflux.  I just want to be healthy.  I'm at a point where 50 lbs would probably do it.  It seems everyone lately on the site is having major issues, and it's scaring me to death.

I'm 5'2 and had my lap band revised to rny 4 months ago. Starting weight 198 current weight168 so it's going slow, but I'd do it all again. I have no complications no problems, your not gonna drop 100 lbs in 4 or 6 mo the like someone that has more to lose and you will lose slower being a revision. If they remove that band .... And you don't have another tool in place, you are likely to continue to gain beyond your original highest weight with out extreme dedication and sociolinguistic which most of us do. It have Bc we needed the tool to help us.

Banded 6/9/09 HW 242 LW 142 Revision 198 m 1 loss 16 lbs 182. M 2 loss 4 lbs 178. M3 loss 6 lbs 174.m4 loss 4 lbs 168. M5 gain 2 lbs 170. At first I thought your weight didn't sound high enough to me to do this, truly. But then I saw your post about your height, and all your co-morbidities going on. I would do it. I'm not saying *you* should do it, mind you. Only you can do that. And I stand by what I commented on your last post...you need a firm protocol *before surgery* from your doctor about how exactly he wants you to handle constipation after surgery. But I think you have plenty of reasons to go ahead. But if you are just seriously thinking "this is not for me"...only you can figure out if you have really changed your mind or if this is just cold feet. I think everyone gets some degree of cold feet.

Once upon a time, we were all "lightweights." We all thought we could lose weight without surgery. We would lose, gain more, lose, gain more. The chances of keeping a stable, normal weight are tiny, without surgery.

Then we ended up with diabetes, heart and circulatory problems, arthritis, jpint replacements -- the list goes on.

You will NOT end up underweight and malnourished. You just won't. You'll be doing really well if you reach goal, much less go way past it.

Everyone gets nervous. I put off surgery for several years, thinking I could do it without it. I couldn't. And I'm upset with myself that I wasted years without going through with it.
