Reaction of Co-workers

So since I started this Journey last October I've lost nearly 100 lbs.  1/2 of it very gradually over the approx. 7 months pre-op classes testing, etc. Gone from a size 22-24 to a 16-18.  Hardly anyone in the workplace has said anything about the weight loss - only a few that I'm very close to.  But I got my hair cut very short and everyone seems to be commenting saying how flattering it is, etc.  I'm really not fishing for compliments and honestly am quite fine if no-one notices or says anything about the weight-loss.  It makes me uncomfortable anyhow.  I find it interesting that you loose 100 lbs. and no one seems to notice, but cut 4-5 inches of hair and the whole world comments.  I think we are just trained to not comment on body shape size.  Just my Friday musings.....

I think its just taboo to talk about weight-- good OR bad. I'm sure you've gotten that look- where you see people try and mentally understand how/how you look different. Very few have mentioned my weight loss; but I get that look a lot.

Very true.  It's like they know something's different, not sure what.

Funny!! I agree that for the most part, it is common courtesy not to mention other people's weight.

I had my surgery in September. By the end of the school year, none of my student had really mentioned my weight loss (I thought that was sweet for teenagers). When yearbooks came out, they were SHOCKED to see my picture. It really made them realize how much weight I had lost. "Miss!! Have you seen your picture??" It made me laugh.

I have to respond also esp when related to "workplace" place pictures!  I had my surgery end of March 2016; and a new manager started here at my work 8/1/16 which I briefly spoke with her that first week.  Now, 7 weeks later, met with her again discussing an email she had sent. Our emails have pics of each employee - mine was taken when I started August 2015 - year ago.  SHe looked at the email during our discussion - took a double look of that OLD pic and me presently.... quickly saying --- Wow you have lost a "sh*t - load" of weight!!!  Funny. and Yes I would love to get that email pic updated, fortunately the pic on my badge is totally scrapped off (not good qaulity badges for hospital based facilty)  I know there is a way to do so -- just have to take time to figure that out!

I know others have been taking double looks lately as well esp with the weight loss really noticeable in my smaller sizes --- and the fact I'm wearing a "hair piece" (partial topper piece/clipped in) since my thin hair had really thinned out.  But I'm loving my new days of dressing fun and whimsical hair styling - great to have some hair on top, even using fun barettes =)

Its not that we are 'trained' not to comment- it is just not acceptable in a work environment to comment on someone's shape or weight unless you really know the person and know it wouldn't be offensive. It can lead to lawsuits. You can feel fairly comfortable commenting on someone's hair cut though.

My boss and bosses boss have both said something to me. I don't mind it - my boss is aware of the surgery and my bosses boss probably suspects I had it but would never ask.

It's strange what people notice. At one time I had a full beard and moustache for 15 years. One day I shaved the beard and kept the moustache.

No one asked when or why I shaved the beard. They all asked when I grew a moustache. Even my wife.

I agree.

I just get funny looks by most people, I think they are afraid to say something about me losing so much weight, but I also got funny looks and was avoided by the same when I gained as well.

I get more comments when I wear my College football shirts.. Most at work root for the competition team.

But I take it in stride and enjoy the looks on their faces.

Hair is safe to talk about - weight, not so much.  I'd be THRILLED if no one ever commented on my body or my weight loss again.  But I love when people comment on my hair :D

Sounds like you are lucky to work with considerate people. Your new hairstyle probably gave them the opportunity to unzip their lips and spill out compliments they have been respectfully holding back.  My DD's boyfriend recently was handed a photograph of me pre-WLS.  We waited for his reaction.  He quietly looked at the picture for some time, turned to me, said nothing, then gave me a high-five. I hope he becomes my son-in-law.
