My Pre-Op Liquid diet instructions say, "You will have 1000 calories per day and at least 50 grams of protein. Most of the calories, protein, and fat in your diet will come from the shakes." It also says to drink atleast 100oz of water daily to keep up with such a high protein diet. I have only been drinking 2 shakes a day (as opposed to 6 which would be 1000 calories) but I am meeting the protein minimum. I have also only been drinking about half of the water. I am allowed on my list to drink some chicken broth and 1 cup of certain veggies daily, which I have totally been taking advantage of. Do I need to up my water and protein, or is being minimal good?

I would get as much liquid in as you possibly can.  Good training for after surgery.

I know it was very hard for me too, to get in my requirements. I was restricted to a low calorie diet and was supposed to get in my protein and water.  Some days i just could not. I would shoot to make it, and if it isn't doable, let the dr or nut know just what you can do. Good luck. You can get through it!
