I'm a weird mix of anxious and excited lol. Not necessarily scared-nervous though. Both my mom and husband have been through it already so I have good examples and a good understanding of what to expect. But before it was THEM. Now it's ME. Lol

I needed a lot of chicken and beef broth... I tired of sweet things quickly... and the warmth of the broths were a savior for me.

Good Luck!!! It's almost time!!! Woot Woot!

Wow we couldn't do Nectar until post op in my program. I had to use Core Power or Slimfast advance. They required tons of sugar based carbs. I hated it. Search on Syntrax Nectar. Lots of great flavor threads. It's my go to now. Actually just finished my Apple shake a few minutes ago.

My surgeon/didn't require full liquids even though my pre-op was only 6 days! I had Premiere Protein shakes and 1 meal a day. My meals were mostly veggie soup (which seemed decadent!) and veggie skewers as it still had to be healthy.

If you're on liquids only, I would say get used to some shakes, have some broth, sugar-free jello and popsicles.

Good luck with your diet and surgery! Congrats!

Wow! Six days pre-op? I have to do 2 weeks and liquid only.

Looks like you are doing great! Any tips or recommendations?

My pre-op diet was supposed to be 2 weeks, but I was approved for surgery quickly after being denied by my insurance twice. On the same day I was approved, I was told there was a cancellation in the OR the next Tuesday. If I didn't take that date, I would have had to wait a month, so I grabbed it. My surgeon said having a 6 day pre-op diet was fine, so that worked for me!

Thanks! It doesn't always feel like I'm doing well, but that's because I'm comparing myself to others who have done even better. Don't fall into that trap! The advice given here is quite good! If you haven't already - browse around the forums and watch Youtube videos of people who have had RNY or VSG. I found it very helpful.

In terms of what I've learned that has helped me - really do your best to get your protein and liquids in. It's not easy, but it's best for your health and weight loss. Don't eat too much or too fast - you'll regret it! Follow your surgeon and nutritionists advice. When you can eat "real" foods again - don't be afraid to try things you didn't used to like. I read that tuna is really good for you and has a lot of protein, but I've hated tuna my whole life. Now, I eat it for lunch a lot and I love it (Starkist flavored pouches). Avoid carbs and sugar. I do have it sometimes, but very rarely (I ate a pbj yesterday and it was awesome, but I knew it wasn't the best thing to be eating for my weight loss/protein goals).

Trust me - I'm not perfect. I struggle with my fluids and protein (which is why I still do Premiere Protein shakes) and I really need to start exercising (instead of just saying I will). All we can do is our best! Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll do awesome!
