Muscle Relaxant

I've been having severe pain below my left shoulder blade. Pretty sure it's tension/muscle strain, but it hasn't gotten any better in a week. I've tried heat, cold and Tylenol. It's bad enough that I haven't slept the last 3 nights so I'm going to Urgent Care later today (PCP is not available). My question is are there any contraindications for taking a muscle relaxant after RNY? I know NASIDS are out. If my self-diagnosis is correct, I'm thinking they might do a muscle relaxant and possibly a course of steroids. Thanks for your input.

You could also take an injectable NSAID. Once in a while is okay.

I got whiplash over the summer and talked to the dr I work for and they offered to give me a toradol injection with a steroid injection and I called my surgeon and they said as long as it's once in a while it's okay. Just not daily.

It's really not ok. Niit an injectable, topical, or ANY other kind of steroid. Its not worth getting an ulcer that could threaten your life.

All steroids become systemic, no matter how they enter the body.

I lost 6-7 units of blood from an ulcer. If a doctor told me it was ok to take steroids once in a while, it's the last time I'd see that doctor.

Muscle relaxers no. Steroids... Yes...come under same category as NSAIDS in that they can make you prone to an ulcer.

That being said my Bariatric office realizing you may need to take them says to please let them know you are on them, as well as make sure you are taking a PPI for the duration and 2 weeks after.

Why no muscle relaxers? I take it every day. Rx. They don't have NSAIDs. Or did you mean NSAIDs?

I should have written muscle relaxers no problem. Steroids can be s problem.
