I love to cook, so I start my recipe and plan the whole meal out, set the table, etc.
Problem is I taste test as I'm cooking so by the time the meal hits the plates....I'm full!
(sigh...I'm an idiot)

I used to do this pre-op but have found much greater success when I just dip a spoon into the meal and sniff/taste the sauce that the food is cooked in to see if it needs to be seasoned differently... either that, of I employ the chew-and-spit-out method of tasting while cooking.
I usually just take a small taste, just of the sauces, broths, or whatever it is, to figure out the spices. Its okay though, at least you are full when you get there and so therefore aren't eating, you can still sit and relax with your family!
