I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and when I left the hospital, and got my acid blocker prescription, they told me to crush the pills. Does anyone know how long til I can swallow them whole? I'm hoping now because they don't taste great. lol.

How big are the pills? I've been taking small & medium sized tablets & capsules since the norning after my surgery.

My surgeon wanted me to go a whole month before taking pills whole, but I couldn't stand to take the crushed ones after about a week, so I started swallowing them whole at that point. It was a bit tough at first, but now I'm two weeks out and it's working pretty well.  Still dissolving the Nexium in water first though - that one's just too large for now.

I  hear ya.

I was told that until your surgeon "clears" you to cut, rather than crush meds (unless the pharmacist says it cannot be crushed like a time release kind of med). IT should not be bigger than the HEAD of Lincoln on the penny or get a pill cutter.

But do you have the kind of PPI that is little beads? AWFUL!! I finally got approval for the Prevaced solutabs and they melt on your tongue..flavored!!

Good luck, Jan

I was initially told nothing larger thatn a pea.  I got a pill cutter from the drug store.  I never crushed anything.  within a couple months out I could take a whole, and now I can take more than one whole pill at a time.

Thanks everyone.

I decided to give it a try and it went down perfectly. I only have 4 more days til I can start soft food. I only hope it works out as well as the pill did!
