This is the first time I have been sick since surgery. What kind of cold medicine can I take?

As far as I know, anything you want. That is one of the benefits of VSG, you are not limited as to what medicine you can take. If something is particularly harsh on the stomach I would be careful but other than that, you should be fine. Watch out for sugars (for dietary reasons) but you should be fine w/most anything as far as I know.

Always do a last minute check w/your doc's office to make sure.

It depends on how far out you are and what your surgeon allows.

For me, I was able to take ANY medication from 6 weeks out. I've taken just about every cold medicine on the market, my favorite is Mucinex and Mucinex D. Early out, I did the kid's meltaways, and then progressed to pills.

Mine lasted a month, holy smokes that was a nasty cold. I had the dry lingering cough for about two weeks until I was told to go and get some tylenol 1's, just wish I knew this sooner, I was not sleeping much at night due to coughing lots. I basically took 2 each night before bed.
