One year later (with after pic)
Ok, so it's been alittle over a year... I had my surgery on 7/12/11. Although the first two weeks after surgery were rough, it was worth every minute!! I have had many victories, both scale and non-scale. The thing I am most thankful for is more energy, I certainly need it to keep up with my life now!
At my heaviest, I was 240ish, I am not even sure of the exact number because I stopped counting. I was wearing a size 22, and some of those were tight. Now, I am at 149 and wearing a size 10 and some of those are lose. I have had my share of stalls, even a maddening one that lasted three months!! I just kept plugging away at my program and things eventually worked themselves out.
Losing the weight allowed me to get back to my passion of horseback riding. I hadn't been on a horse in seven years because of my weight. Now, I am competing with my horse Roman in eventing. I never thought I would have the stamina for this paticular sport. One of the biggest NSVs for me was being able to buy tall riding boots off the rack in a "regular" calf width. No full or wide calf required :)
My surgeon thinks I have about 10lbs of skin that could be removed. I probably will not do that, at least while I still have small children at home. I don't know how much more weight I can lose, as my body fat percentage is fairly low now. Horseback riding, at least the kind I do six days a week, builds killer muscles!!
For those considering surgery, I recommend it wholeheartedly! I am so glad that I chose to have VSG above any other procedure. In my opinion, it had the best risk to pay-off ratio.
Good luck!
