Getting fiber?

Hi, all

I'm about seven weeks removed from surgery, and I'm finding it tough to get much fiber into my diet with my focus mainly on protein. How does everyone get a decent amount of fiber in their diets?

Thanks,

Grant

My go to thing is Fiber One cereal.  Early out I skipped the milk, but eventually started using milk with it.  Now I switched to Almond Milk- a meal for 100 calories and a good dose of fiber.  I also just found a product called half calorie crackers- they have a decent amount of fiber as well for 70 cals (4 grams protein).  Not perfect- but a start.

This early out, I would say a metamucil, sugar/taste free that mixes into any of your drinks, foods, etc. A little later on, I would suggest Quest bars, they're my go to at this point, and certainly not only for the healthy fiber Your nut may have the best/appropriate suggestion--worth the call. Good luck!

A dose of miralax. 17 grams of fiber. I also use Breakstone's Live Active cottage cheese (3) and add in a dose of Fibersure (5) so that gives me a boost (plus the cultures from the cottage cheese). Try to watch the fiber though. It takes that to keep me regular, but I also have to take ducolax twice per day to keep things soft.

Note: I'm an extreme case and all of this is approved by my surgeon, PCP and my fissure surgeon from a few years ago.

Avoid laxatives like Milk of Magnesia unless you have to.

I avoided cereals (still do, too many carbs - for me, but I'm pretty carb sensitive) and also they don't sit well in my tummy.

I'm a Miralaxer, too. I throw it in my morning smoothies to keep things going smoothly.

Thanks for the input, everyone.

I don't think Miralax is quite ... what I need, but I'll look at the other suggetions.
