Hi everyone!  I had my band removed in January and I am finally getting my sleeve on July 8th.  Do you have to do clear liquids for the entire 2 week pre-op? Need a plan, fast!!!  Thanks!!!

No.  Check with your doctor, some plans want you to eat low carb, some plans want you to drink protein drinks, some plans only want you to do clear liquids in the 24 hours before surgery.

My doctor did not ask me to follow any pre-op plan, but I chose to do the protein shake route for two weeks.

What does your surgeon want you to do?  Each surgeon has different guidelines to follow pre-op.

Can someone help me? My first post. I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. I have only lost 7 lbs. surgeon said he would "like" to see 20, but not absolute. Do you think they might cancel my surgery?

From what you said I think you will be okay. If they said they would "like" to see you lose 20 pounds then you should be okay.  If they said you "need" to lose 20 pounds then that's another story.  I pray that your surgery will go forth as scheduled.  Good luck.

I'm getting sleeved on the 8th also. My pre-op diet has been 2-3 weeks (I elected for 3) of 3-5 protein shakes with 1 meal of lean meat plus 2 cups of non-starchy veggies. I also have to keep calories under 1200 daily plus carbs less than 120 GM, but I am keeping my carbs to less than 60 GM. Every doctor has a different plan so you should check to see what your doc says he/she wants.

Thanks for the replies!  My dr just wants me to shrink my liver and get used to a liquid diet to prepare me for after surgery!  Im going to start with a weight loss shake from Wal-Mart,  I just can't remember the name.  I will call my doctor in the morning,  I have been eating all day which is awful I know!! Most of it is nerves!!! Good luck everyone!laugh

Dr Fang @ the Bridges Center had me do liquids only, as much as I wanted, for a month prior back when I had my VSG in 2010. But Bridges recently revised the pre-op plan to drink unlimited liquids for 2 weeks pre-op. Keep in mind that the one key thing you have to do as a patient is shrink your liver as much as possible prior to that surgeon going in there. The smaller the liver the better the ability of the surgeon to see what he/she is doing and the less likely you are to get something pinched or nicked during the procedure. Liquids only will help you throw off lots of toxins and shrink that liver! I actually lost nearly 60 Lbs pre-op due to being on liquids only for about 6 weeks (my surgery got pushed out = why the long pre-op phase).

Bottom line is, do what your surgeon asks you to do and make yourself as ready for a trouble free surgery as possible!

Take care... Craig
