Straw

Told not to drink thru a straw.  Is that forever after Sleeve or just until healed after surgery?  And why no straw?  I prefer ice water and I don't like to have to "filter" the ice with my teeth---much prefer a straw.

I know the instruction comes because straws allow more air to enter the pouch than by regular sipping. From there the idea is more air equals more discomfort. The impression i got was that it's a forever thing but now it seems like one of those things were different people might have different tolerances and could deviate by choice. I don't use straws because it was a simple nough thing to give up. My guess is you'll soon get responses from people who are using them.

My surgeon said, and I quote, that the straw rule is a bunch of "malarkey". Some people (me included) just swallow more air than others. I had to train myself not to and a straw didn't make any difference.

I suspected that.  I think I'll try.  If more gas, I'll stop. Thanks Chrissy

My doctor recommended using a straw so that I'd take in less air.  LOL  I use a straw for everything cold.

I was wondering the same thing!I would think it would be easier to sip through a straw.  If I'm laying down in a hospital bed I will need a straw.

It is too soon for me to deviate from orders as I am only 1 week out, but that will be the first thing I try!  I am off work now, but I work in retail and the only thing we are allowed to have on the counter is our water.  At the rate it takes me to drink, I have to take constant little sips and getting my water in is my most important rule.  I think the attached straw is in my future!

Honestly I am 8 weeks out and I use a straw all of the time. I just prefer it because like you, I don't like filtering out the ice with my teeth.   I have not noticed any problems.
