Please help I have fell off the wagon and can't seem to get back on
I'm almost 10 months out and I can't get back on track. I had my gallbladder out in August and ever since then I have not been doing what I'm suppose to be doing. I know what to do, but I'm so depressed for not sticking to plan. I have gained 5 lbs. and I feel like a failure. I have ate all of the wrong/bad foods and now when I try to eat the foods that I'm suppose to eat I get sick. I have been seeing my therapist, but I just can't seem to do it. I always tell myself I will do better tomorrow then tomorrow comes and I do good in the morning then I slip with the darn vending machine at work. The hardest part is that it's Christmas time. Please help me figure this out!

Hi Shandra,
I wish I had an easy answer. All I can say is we've all been there at one time or another or we wouldn't be needing WLsurgery.
My advice is get off carbs! For me, if I eat carbs I have terrible food cravings. But if I can stay away from them for two or three days, it becomes much more manageable.
Also bring some healthy snacks that you can have instead of the venting machine food. I often eat nuts as a snack when I'm breaking the carb addiction. (Long term, they are too high in calories, but they are effective for helping break the carb habit.) But any low carb, healthy foods should work as well.
Good luck, and let me know if cutting carbs makes it easier.

I agree with Carol. Carb detox is step number one for sure. It takes a good 48-72 hours, but it's worth all of the pacing and grouchy feelings in the end. I had to do it after Thanksgiving and am glad I did. Lean protein and water. You know what to do. Now go rock that sleeve!!

This is a hard time of year to be sticking to a diet plan. You've lost your momentum, so it's even harder. First, take a deep breath and give yourself a big hug and recognize all the hard work and success you've had so far. Go back and look at old pictures of yourself, remember how you used to feel at 326 pounds. Review your reasons for wanting this surgery and for wanting to get healthy in the first place.
As far as that nasty vending machine, tell yourself first thing in the morning, and when you get to work that you are NOT going to buy anything from the machine. If you have to walk by it, look right at it and laugh and tell yourself how much stronger you are than a machine with a bunch of garbage in it. Do NOT buy anything from the machine, no matter what. Do NOT use your stomach as a garbage can. You deserve better than that.
Write down your plan for what it is that you should and want to be doing with your eating and exercise that you know works. From that moment on, do not deviate from the plan. Do not start the next day....start the minute you write down your plan.
Give yourself a hug and some positive self talk every time you avoid a temptation. Plan plan plan ahead.
Sending you all the caring and strength I can...
Jane
You already know what to do - you went from 326 pounds to 189, so you did something right! Start back with the basics. Log your food on MyFitnessPal - every bite. Make sure you're getting enough protein, and at least 8 glasses of water a day.
You'll have a couple of rough days, just like the others say, but you can do this!
C'mon! 5lbs does not make you a failure. You do however need to stop the bleeding and turn around. I will go back to what I always ask, "Why did you go through the pain of surgery, the difficult pre-op diet, and the month without real food after surgery to give up now?"
Do you want to do that again?
I think I have asked you this before, but why are you buying foods you know are not good to have around you? The easiest place to stay on track is in the grocery store. You may crack one time and run to McDonalds one night but when you are grocery shopping if you don't buy junk food, you can't eat junk food. Do not go to the store hungry.
Here is the first step...STOP SAYING CAN'T. If you say you can't do it, you won't do it.
Second step...STOP WAITING FOR TOMORROW. Today is just a good a day to start as any. I don't care what you ate up until right now but make the food you put in your mouth the rest of the day foods that belong on your plan.
Third...WHEN YOU GET HOME GO FOR A WALK. I don't care if its 15 minutes or 1 hour (would prefer 1 hour) but get some exercise. I don't care how much you walk or move in your normal day or how much you walk in your job. Get some EXTRA exercise.
Fourth...WHEN YOU GET HOME THROW AWAY ALL THE JUNK FOOD. When you are done with that, then make some food for you to talk to work with you tomorrow and get it all packaged up and ready to grab when you leave. Or if you are a stay at home person, ready to grab and eat or heat up and eat. But make it so you don't have to decide.
GO FOR ANOTHER WALK!
Fifth...When you leave for work, leave your cash and change at home (or in the car) and take all the food you need to eat for your time away from home. Take your water too. You will then have no reason to go near a vending machine. Make sure you include your meals and snacks.
Its that simple...Well its not simple but that's the point, nothing worth doing is.
C'mon girl! I've been with you a long long time get it together! We had the same guy and I have lost 180 lbs and still going! Let's do this!!!!!!! Don't make me look bad.
