Fiber

So the NP for my surgeon's office recommended I get a fiber supplement to work on my slow bowels. She actually said I should get "bulk forming fiber." I spoke to the pharmacist I work with about it, and he said it works with water and expands in your digestive system to help keep you regular. I'm not sure if that sounds like a good idea. Also, it says it's a laxative, which freaks me out, and it says not to take for more than 7 days. I got some fiber powder, but it adds to my carb count, wich I don't like at all. If I am going to increase my carbs, I should at least get some fullness from real fiber, right? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Benefiber is a great product, non-laxative and can be taken indefinitely.  My surgeon highly recommended it and I just use 2 tsps per day in my shake (no grit, no taste) and it works like a charm.  You can actually take it up to 3 times per day if you need it.

That's what I got. I haven't gone yet since I started yesterday, but I know I need to give it a little time.

I have always had a difficult time with by BM's after surgery it was really bad. So I now add fiber any time I can...I add a tablespoon of Chia seeds to my Greek Yogurt every morning, two teaspoons of benefiber at least twice a day in my hot green tea and a stool softener (Colace) every morning. This along with the  100oz of water keep in moving
