Scared of hair loss

My surgery date is July 10th and the approval process went very quickly for me.  I could have done it earlier, but I really need to prepare myself.  I am getting my protien in for the most part, but I feel like I am binging on unhealthy foods because i know that I won't eat them after.  I am so scared of the hair loss they talk about post op.  I don't want to look sickly.  I am not telling many people about my surgery.

My surgery is July 10th too! I have already started taking Biotin, which supposedly helps with the hair loss. I am having trouble with pre-op bingeing too. I've got my first appointment with a counselor who specializes in eating disorders this week. (I am self-pay so there was no insurance mandated psych consult). Maybe that would help you too. From what I understand a lot of people say their tastes change after surgery and the foods they once loved don't appeal to them anymore. Let's hope that happens to us! Good luck.

Don't let the hair loss scare you. It is a small price to pay and it grows back. Mine was not near as bad as I feared. No one noticed except my hairdresser and she couldn't really tell until the new growth started.  😄

I am scheduled for July 1st!  Yeah July sleevers!  I am only a little worried about the hair loss. I have very thick hair, so maybe it won't be noticeable.  I too find myself eating some things with the justification that I won't be able to eat it later, although I don't know if I would call it a binge. I am grieving over the imminent loss of hot McDonald French fries. Crazy?  I know that in maintenance I may be able to occasionally have a tiny bit of some of these things, but I will be afraid to open that door...it is a slippery slope.  Good luck guys!

How can you take Biotin post surgery?

I take the gel caps now because my hair is thin enough as it is.

It's a chance you have to be willing to take, and I did... I haven't lost any yet (my surgery was on March 12th) and as of now what's recently driving me crazy is scalp itchiness, and I have researched it's normal *sigh* and just bought myself some head & shoulders. Hope that helps. Anywho, don't worry about what people think, it's a small price to pay to have your health back. I've always been unattached to hair, I've had it super long, super short, a million different styles, but remember the loss won't be permament, it'll grow back. ;) (= Good luck on your new "adventure".

The hair loss is not fun but it is temporary.  I started losing hair at 3 months out.  By 6 months, my hair was quite thin, and I started using a body foam and blow drying my hair to make it look fuller.  At 8 months, I noticed a crop of short hair sticking straight up on top of my head!  I didn't even mind the scruffy look because I was so happy to see the regrowth.  By 1 year, my hair was looking normal again.

In retrospect, it was a small price to pay to be so much thinner and healthier.  Know that it is temporary, and you'll be back to normal by your surgeversary!

Best wishes,

Carol
