Just want some opinions
So, I know I am going to get responses to my question of "every person is different" or other such things and believe me, I realize that is the case. I am just trying to learn if I am in line with where others were at this stage post-op. So, awhile ago I saw someone post that their nutritionist stated that they should be somewhere between 40-60% of expected weight loss by the end of their third month. My question then is, when you guys calculated weight loss, was it from when you originally started losing weight, basically your highest weight, or was it from the weight you were at at surgery date. For example, at my highest point I was 366. I made a target weight of 185 although my surgeon says with my bodybuild, 210 is probably more realistic. Anyways, I am, as of today 281. So, I have lost basically 46% percent of the 180 pounds that I want to lose with still 9 days to go till my three month surgerversary. But, on my surgery date I was 350, so I have lost roughly 70 lbs so far since surgery date. So, my needed wight loss is 165lbs and my percentage is 42%. So, question number 1, which weight date did you use, and question 2, is in the low forties a percentage that puts me on pace to be where I need to be. I have noticed month three, the weight loss has really slowed down but I am still happy with the progress so far. No matter what answer I get, I am still quite happy with where I am. I just want to know if you guys were in the same weight loss percentage area. Was anyone all the way to 60% at three months?
I have never heard the 40-60% of expected weight loss by 3 months. And I have been around the boards a lot. Everyone is different. Everyone needs to loose different amounts and so it will take different people longer. Some people work out very intensely, some people keep calories / carbs / protein to different levels. All of these things affect our bodies.
I lost at a pretty steady state for the first 5-6 months then things have leveled out.
Good luck. Try not to stress about the scale -- instead stress about getting your water, protein and activity in.
I'm calculating everything since my highest weight which was at the beginning of January. My surgery was March 13th. I used "ideal weight" calculators to figure out my ideal weight and decided on 120 based on the different calculation methods. So all of my EWL math is done based on those two numbers - 319 at the highest, 120 as my ideal.
I'm 5 months post-op now, 8 months post-the beginning of my lifestyle change, and I'm at 45% EWL. (I am stupidly pleased with this. Every freaking day.)
At 3 months post-op, if I used 292 as my starting weight (weight on surgery day) and then 262 as my weight 3 months later, I would have been at 23% EWL.
I think that having deadlines to meet certain weights by is really foolish, though, it sets people up for failure and disillusionment. I'll get there when I get there - slower than some, faster than others, but I'll get there and that's all that matters. If my doctor was going to shame me for not reaching arbitrary goals at arbitrary dates, I would have picked a different one.

Wow, I haven't heard of this either. My doctor gave me a target weight that would simply put me at a normal BMI. He only said because of my age, love of the gym and dedication to the eating/drinking program, I should have no problem hitting that goal. That's it. No monthly goals for me to break my neck to hit. You are doing a great job! No worries. We will get there!
Thanks for the positive words. I have an old football shirt, from back in my coaching days, that I gave to all of the kids who came to voluntary summer workouts. On the front it said, "My summer of Love 2005" and on the back it said, "Developing a love affair with the weight room." When you said your "love of the gym," reminded of that shirt. Might have to make some more of those.
