my surgeons group offers a support group meeting for surgery patients.  Can anyone tell me what happens at these meetings?

The Support Group I go to - is pretty much exactly that - for support.  Usually we start by going around the room and doing an intro that includes what surgery we had, when and if we want we can say how much we have lost.  There is usually time for an open forum of questions & concerns and our group leader will plan different activities for the meetings. Once we had a clothes swap meeting, where everyone brought there clothes in and there were so many different sizes from people losing weight - lots of people walked away with nice clothes. Its always a little different - but its a lot like here (this forum)- but face to face.

My hospital offers a post-op group and an "open" group anyone can attend.  The open meeting is jam-packed, with lots of interaction and lots of ,inforimation flowing.  Unfortunately, there are few attendees at the post-op meeting and everything feels forced because there are only 3-5 people.

So, I guess it's a good idea to attend a meeting or two to see what your surgeon's group is like.  I love the open group I attend.

Support groups can be very good...... like awesome good.....

To very bad..... like better off not going..... "Just cut back to one Mocha Frappachino a day this next week and see how it goes" a room full of whiners that are looking for validation for not losing weight.

My clinic's support group meetings are casual but informative. The NUT leads the discussion and always has a food or drink-related exercise that we complete. It is interesting to hather information from vets, and give information to people who have not yet had WLS. I enjoy going.

My surgons office is out of state. So I went to a local group didn't like it. I just come on here everyday. I don't go to group anymore. People were kinda had the idea I didn't need help because im a light weight I didn't feel welcome. But I love this site.

I've never gotten to go to my surgeon's support group, since it's too far away and on the one night I have another commitment.  I did try a local one, but it was... suboptimal to say the least.  Now I rely on OH and my mental health therapist.
