Looking good to others but not myself

There was a point in this journey when I did not come across a mirror I did not like. Recently I am feeling more conscious about my loose skin. I am down 170 lbs. and my doc won't consider plastic surgery until after 1 year out. (July 30th) I look good  dressed and is hard to tell what is underneath. Maybe I need to cover all my mirrors from the neck down until this passes. Happy New Year to all.

You should be extremely proud of yourself.  You have lost over a whole person.  I understand that the loose skin is not attractive but focus on what you have accomplished.  Say to yourself "this skin used to be filled with fat" and think about how unattractive that was.  I hope I helped.  Imagine what you will look like after your surgery.

Lori  PS I think maybe you are right about getting rid of full body mirrors. : )

I actually agree with the surgeon, waiting one year after hitting decent weight/BMI.

Think of it this way:  one year after hitting and maintaining decent weight loss or goal, I (meaning you) can be fairly certain that: I feel I can stay with the program and keep it off, I won't have to worry every single day if I will regain, etc...- find all the positives of waiting that are out there.

Before you know it, your time is there.

Are you seeing a therapist?  Dissatisfaction with our bodies could morph into dysmorphia which is a dangerous route.  I'm working really hard to look at my body and love it, regardless of the sagging skin.  I try to see my skin as a sign of my amazing success, instead of a sign of my failures.  It's hard, but I think it's really worth it.

(I'm planning to wait until two years after reaching my goal weight to do plastics, since our skin will continue to shift around for up to 24 months.  So I don't want to pay for a procedure that I might not have needed had I waited!)
