Feeling of fullness -- does it last long term?

My favorite side effect of the VSG is the feeling of fullness after I eat my three meals a day. The intake of only about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food then feeling as though I just finished Thanksgiving Dinner is awesome. My question is will I have this feeling long term over the next 10 years? Or will that feeling diminish ??

Typically, my three small meals, daily water intake and minimal snacks, (i.e. 1-2 oz cheese, 1 cup skim milk, yogurt, or a few nuts, etc.) usually more than satisfies me during the day.

Just hoping that this "tool" will stay with me.......

If you stick to eating dense proteins instead of slider foods, yes, that feeling will stay.

Although I question why, even now, you're eating so much that you feel as full as after Thanksgiving. I've only eaten that much once or twice post-op and I'm 19 months post-op. It wasn't a pleasant feeling.

Are you saying you eat 1-1.5 cups of food in one sitting at 3 months out? Is this what your doctor has in his plan? That sounds like a TON.

We can eat a lot more as time goes by. This is when the danger of regain sets in.

My plan has always been more than a lot of people on here I've noticed..... been maintaining about 10 lbs a month weight loss. They don't want me using any protein enhancers... i.e. protein drinks, powders and such. Only protein through regular food diet. Their plan was 100/100 of protein and carbs a day. No calorie counting that they have given me.

Obviously 1 to 1 1/2 cups a food sounds like a lot for many of you, but they wanted me to have 3 cups of skim milk a day just for my snacks....one morning, afternoon and evening. As well as 64 ounces minimum of water. I'm sure if I was female it would be less, but I don't know how much less.

I am only 7 months out from surgery, but my feeling of fullness remains the same today as it was when I first started introducing solids. And it SUCKS. I absolutely loathe my new full feeling and will go to great lengths to AVOID it, that is how unpleasant feeling full is to me now. On one hand, I guess this is a good thing because it reinforces the active choice I make to eat what I need to sustain myself, and not what my head thinks I need... but it's still a miserable feeling for me, and yes, I do miss my pre-surgery feeling of fullness. But that lovely squishy warm stuffed feeling is what helped me get to 315lbs, so while I might miss it, I definitely don't regret having surgery!

To answer your question about fullness, yes it will stay with you, but it will take more to give you that feeling as time goes on.

Most people find that their sleeves mature to full capacity gradually over a year to 18 months.

An interesting fact about sleeve maturity is that most sleeves mature to about 4 times the immediate post op capacity. So say, you are at a 2 oz capacity (or 1/4 cup by volume), most likely you'll be at about an 8 oz capacity (or 1 cup by volume) when all is said and done. So if you are eating easily 1 cup of yogurt now in one 15-20 minute sitting, you can do the math. You'll probably be able to easily eat 2 cups at full capacity.

Pre op I was a full feeling chaser. I don't mean satisfied full, but "Damn, I need a nap" type of full. Had to reprogram as a post op. Also, I don't have the same feeling of fullness as I used to. Sometimes I miss it, but most of the time I'm fine. What I have learned to hate is the feeling too full sensation I have now. It's AWFUL.

Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling of satiety, it's essential to weight loss and maintenance. Yet, when you say Thanksgiving full that means to me over eating to almost being uncomfortable or sometimes down right uncomfortable. I bet that's not what you meant when you posted "...feeling as though I just finished Thanksgiving dinner...." If it indeed, is, then I'm going to urge you to not eat to that level of fullness anymore. The reason is simple. The more pressure you exert on a sleeve while it's healing (which takes 9-18 months according to different surgeons) the more it is apt to stretch and eventual have a larger capacity. A larger sleeve makes maintenance harder for some people.

Just something to think about.

True I didn't mean the point of pain.... just the feeling of being completely satisfied.... like after a holiday meal.... sorry for the confusion.

I believe you could have increased your amount of weight lost to twice, maybe three times what you have lost in 4 months if you weren't eating so much food and so many calorie. Just sayin

Well...hmmm....I don't want our first contact to be negative. But I am shocked - SHOCKED! - that you can eat 1 to 1-1/2 cups of food at 3 months out. I can only eat 1 c. of food now at 2-1/2 years post-op.

You should never, ever feel like you are stuffed/full like you just ate Thanksgiving dinner. That means you overdid it. If you continue to do this I promise you that it will wreck your restriction.

The "tool" will not stay with you if you continue on this path because it will take more and more food to get that full feeling.

The goal isn't to feel "full" - the goal is not be feeling physical hunger. And it takes very little food right now for that to happen.
