Hello Everyone!!!

I have lost 97 pounds in 6.5 moths.  I feel great and my health is Awesome. A lot of my diseases have now gone away and my energy level is through the roof.  The issue that I am having is that some Friends and Strangers (people at work) keep telling me that I need to stop loosing the weight.  That I look funny, sick, and the last one I heard is pasty.  LoL!!!  I do not think it is true.  In fact, I know it changed/saved my life.  Anyone else dealing with this?  How are you handling it?  Regardless I am happy.  LoL!!!

I think you look great.  I am pre-op so can't say much from personal experience yet but a friend of mine had gastric bypass a few years ago and people at work started saying the same thing to her when she got close to goal.  I don't think it is so much that you look "sickly" as you don't look like they expect or remember you to look and their mind can't reconcile the difference for awhile.

I know in the past when I have lost large amounts of weight on my own, I have started to look quite a bit older.  I haven't figured out how to post pictures on this thing yet but I look pretty good for my 50 years if I say so myself.  I am a little concerned if I will suddenly start showing my age when the weight comes off.

Congratulations on your weight loss.  You are looking great.

I also got comments that I was too thin even when I was still in the obese range of BMI!  Part of the problem was that I had a lot of excess skin, having lost 225 pounds, and it made me look thinner.  But the skin tightened up over time, and I don't have that problem now.

I had one cousin who was the same height and weight as me, who kept telling me I was too thin, until we compared our numbers and realized I was no thinner than she was.  I told her she couldn't complain that I was too thin anymore!  hehehe

I wouldn't recommend going below the normal BMI range, but other than that, you should choose the goal weight that works for you.  Its not anyone else's business.

Tell them, "so's your face."  It rarely makes sense as a comeback, (more points the less sense it makes) stuns them into silence, and shows them you care very little for what they say.  Best used as a drive by, but make sure to keep walking and don't look back.  This has worked very well for me, but I also care very little for other humans and their feelings.

Thanks Docbad.  I am going to have to do that next time.  Good advice.
