6 weeks out!!!

Today marks 6 weeks since I was sleeved.   Talked with my Nutritionist on the phone (since she's 6 hours away) and received the okay to move to Stage 5. 

Since it seems different surgeons have different guidelines, Stage 5 for me means adding foods that are higher in fiber and a bit starchy, such as cooked veggies - squash, green beans, carrots, etc.; and fruits - watermelon, cantaloupe, berries.  After 2-3 weeks I can also add minimal breads and pasta, focusing on ones with whole grains. 

Very excited with this next Stage.

Be careful with the breads and pasta.  My nutritionist said they were okay too (as was oatmeal or high fiber cereals), but they have a lot of calories and are slider foods (don't fill you up).  Though I will have a VERY small amount of a great warm bread at a restaurant, otherwise I try to stay away from it.  I listened to the vets here and have tried to stick to protein first, then low carb vegetables and it really works! I get full with less calories than I would with bread/pasta.

From the few years I've been on the forums, I've seen that the people who have the most success are the people who stick primarily to proteins.  Just because plans allow breads, pastas, and other carb heavy foods doesn't mean that they make sense to add back into our diets.

What Gwen said. Grains, no matter their original form (1000-grain health bread, oatmeal or a cheese Danish), are converted by the digestive process into the same thing -- sugar. Not good. Low-carb, high-fiber vegetables and (to some extent) fruits are much better for you than grains. Starchy grain carbs also have the unfortunate tendency in most sleeve patients to induce cravings for more of the same. Experiment very carefully.

I just read the responses to your original post. It looks like we all jumped on you about the bread and pasta. Not that we're wrong, but congrats are also in order for your success so far and the very-welcome shift to more normal foods. Enjoy your new foods and have a great Thanksgiving!

Congratulations on the 6-week mark!!  Sounds like your program is just like mine, same foods to add at Phases 5 and 6. I go for my 1-month checkup on Nov 30th and I get to start Phase 3 then.  Cannot wait to add meat to my diet finally...deli shaved chicken, turkey and ham, tuna, ground beef or turkey, and cheese!!!  Food you can chew after 6 weeks, I won't know what to do hahahaha

Stage 3 is definitely a welcomed shift.  I even made sloppy joes, using the Morningstar Farms griller crumbles and one can of Hunt's Manwich sauce.  Sooooooo good even with bread, and enough that I had lunches for the week plus.
