Hang in there, everyone!! I know it's hard, but I did 2 weeks of 5-6 protein shakes a day and clear liquids before, and a week after surgery. Just remember what waits for you on the other side...a whole new, wonderful life!!!

I am 3 years out from an RNY and never did get my energy back. I take all the recommended vitamins and my levels have have always tested well. I sleep an average of 9 - 10 hours a night but nothing seems to help. I hope things work out better for you! I still don't regret my surgery though!

I'm sorry to hear that! I've not been taking vitamins, so thanks for that reminder!

Do you exercise regularly? (like, a consecutive hour each day?)

Sleeping 9-10 hours a night is excessive, as well.

Have you been tested for depression? (lack of energy, sleeping excessively... textbook depression signs)

You're right, not enough exercise and my doctor says it's depression but am on a lot of antidepressants. To be honest, I have every reason to be depressed! Real life events, not imagined ones! lol Kind of a vicious circle though, no energy to exercise and need exercise to get energy!

Exercise can be very effective for depression and you should be exercising anyway. No excuses!

It does suck but it's totally normal. Post op I went back to work after 6 days but still felt like I needed an afternoon nap for a couple of weeks after that. Around 6 weeks post op I started really feeling back to 'normal' energy-wise. Now, at almost 6 months out, I have more energy than ever and feel great. You will too. Just trust the process and ride it out. It's totally worth it.

My surgeon allows a very low cal diet (800 cals a day) as an option to the Liquid one - for 2 weeks before surgery. I really dont have a sweet tooth and struggle with the "optifast" shakes (the aussie pre op liquid protein shakes)

I am day 8 and have lost 10.5 lbs in the first week.

Its been hard and I was hungry the first week but found if I drank a big glass of water and distracted myself with something (not TV as it seems that every food ad comes up when you are hungry) I got through it.

One week to surgery and counting

Hope your energy lifts - your body will be adjusting to the change

Take care :)

Thank you, and wow you're almost there!. I have lost 4lbs so far and I'm not so much hungry as I just want to chew. The tv food ads really don't seem to be bothering me, which surprises me. It's almost like a switch has flipped in my brain and I zone out when they come on.

Does your surgeon/dietician allow sugar free gum?

Might help with the wanting to chew

Best of luck - you are doing great :)
