How many calories?

Hi everyone! I am going to be 10 weeks out is about 2 days! I'm at a 74 pound loss since the process began. Hurray!

Now, I realize that we have to eat way less calories than we burn in order to lose weight. I can eat about 3 oz per meal (3 times a day) and have been getting my protein in. Typically, I stay under 600 (sometimes I'm a little over and sometimes I'm closer to 500) calories a day.

Does anyone know of any calorie goals? I can't find this information anywhere. My nutritionist didn't even mention it, he just emphasized the importance of meeting protein goals.

How many calories should I aim for at 10 weeks? 4 months? 6 months? 8 months? 1 year?

I wish I could find some sort of chart on this! Thanks to all for answering!

Most won't give a calorie goal, espically when your still early out because the protein is most important. I am almost two years out and just in the last few months have gotten to where I eat 1000-1200 calories a day. I track everything I eat through my fitness pal to keep a watch on things.

I'm a few years out but I still log and record EVERYTHING I eat, before I eat it. Always. I stay under 1000, and aim for 800. But everyone is different. Whatever works for you is what's right for you. My tip here is to keep logging and keeping track. I feel, for me personally, if I don't log I will stop being accountable and make bad choices again. But that's me. ;)

CONGRATS on the weight loss; awesome job!!

10 weeks out I was right where you are. I got up to 800 around 6 months out. I am now in maintenance so I've had to accelerate my calories quite a bit. I'm at 1,200/day now and still increasing to stop losing.

I am 8 weeks out. I do 4 very small meals and 2 shakes a day. And I am usually right at 1,200 calories. I keep my protein as high as possible. Usually around 120 grams. I feel like my number is high. I want to retain the muscle mass I have. I have only lost 40 pounds in 8 weeks. I see my nutritionist for the first time post-op on Friday, we'll see if she tells me to cut back.

Extra food won't do anything to retain muscle mass. It will just slow fat loss. The only thing that will retain muscle mass is lifting heavy.

Thanks, I figured not dropping the shakes as I fully transitioned to food would help with the muscle wasting. I lift, I was lifting heavy until surgery day. I am progressively getting back to heavy weights. My portions are still on point. If I dropped the shakes and my Greek yogurt for last snack(only snack/dessert), I would be at 700 calories. I've been running and lifting and figured my body needs the fuel. I think you are right. I left my shakes out of my lunch pail. Looks really empty!

My body (and your) had plenty of fuel. Fat. Once you've gotten the protein you must eat, the rest is just excess calories that will slow down the fat burning.

Get the fat off. Lift heavy to preserve as much lean body mass as you can.

Some nuts will saying eating low calorie will lower your metabolism. It won't. Being obese caused the damage. I maintain just fine on about 2600 calories.

I was told no more than 600 until 6 months out. I'm 8 months this week and am at 800 per day. Barely losing now so I am going back to 600.
