Surgeon Testimonial

Dana Portenier, M.D.
Well, I saw him for the first time at the weight loss surgery seminar in November 2010. He really impressed me and that is why I chose him. I first met him for my first appointment in December 2010. I felt very comfortable with him and knew I had made the right choice. He is a very nice man and has a great bedside manner. He knows a lot about what he does!!! I really like the fact that he is there for you after the surgery too. He thinks that is a very important part of your success and it is. I am looking forward to Dr. Portenier doing my surgery!!!!

Surgery on Tuesday!!!
on February 20, 2011 9:17 am
Well, my surgery is Tuesday, Feb.22!!!  I am sooo excited!!!  I am not really nervous.  I did choose this surgery you know!!!  I will be nervous when they start to put the IV in!!!  Also when I have to leave my family in the waiting area!!  My husband and kids are nervous but I am trying to reassure them that everything is OK!!!

I just want to say that I am so proud of my husband!!  He has been working out with a trainer in the morning at 5:30 for an hour and a half for almost 2 months now.  He has lost 35 pounds and lots of inches!!  I am so proud of what he is doing to make himself healthier!  He is a great man and I love him so much!!

Please say a prayer for me on Tuesday!  Then welcome me to the loser's bench!!!  Thank you all for the support you have given me.  I appreciate it so much!!!

The wait is over!!
on January 20, 2011 3:17 am
Well, the "big" day is finally scheduled.  Or, should I call it my last "big" day!  My surgery is scheduled for February 22!!!  I was about to have a nervous breakdown waiting to hear when my surgery date was!!!  I found out that she had laid my paperwork to the side and forgot about it!!!  Oh, well!  I called after two days of waiting for her to call me!!!  I am very excited that I will get to have my son's birthday party and be with my husband on his birthday before my surgery.  I cannot wait to have this surgery!  I really pray that it will get rid of my diabetes 100%!!!  That would be fantastic!!!  I take over 300 units of insulin every day of my life.  That is 6-8 shots  Well, we will see!  Thanks to all of you for your support!  This has been a great journey so far!

Second Appt.!!
on January 11, 2011 10:35 am
Well, I had my second appt.  It was January 4 with the psychologist.  It wasn't bad.  She asked a lot of questions and gave me some tips.  Now I am just waiting for them to call me with my surgery date.  Then I will go for some pre-op stuff and be on my way to the loser's bench!!!!  I can't wait!  I am so excited!  My kids are a little nervous.  They have seen a lot of the before and after pictures on this site and they see a lot of changes in the people.  9 out of 10 people's hair is different so they asked me what my hair would look like after the surgery!  I thought that was so funny!!!  It's just that people get their hair died and styled different b/c they feel better about themselves.  I don't think they quite get it but, oh well!!  Well, happy new year everyone!  This is definitely a new year for me!!!

on December 7, 2010 3:54 am
Well, my first appt  is tomorrow!  I cannot wait!!!!  My emotions are flooding thinking about this new journey I am taking!  I sooo can't wait to meet and talk to my surgeon.  I saw him at the seminar but just briefly.  He slipped out at the end.  I will let you know how I like him and what my next step is.  I also have an appt. with my regular doctor on Thursday.  She can get the blood tests and things that I need.  Can't wait!!!!!!!

My Story

I have been overweight all of my life.  I love food.  What can I say?  I was diagnosed with diabetes one year ago.  I take over 300 units of insulin every day and still it is uncontrolled.  I found out that this surgery is not as bad as everyone says it is and the risks are much greater if I live with the diabetes and continue to take this medicine.  I am excited to be on this journey!  Thank you for sharing it with me.
