You can always find something healthy on the menu

Mar 29, 2010

I just got back from meeting Jack at the mall. We went to the Cartier store to look at wedding rings but he wanted to grab lunch at the food court. Oy! The food court. You can always find something savory, salty, greasy and with a lot of calories on any menu or at any restaurant. I think you can also find something WLS friendly that is healthy if you look hard enough. Today, I opted for the Mediteranean choice. I had some spicey chicken dish (in a sauce). Instead of rice, I asked for 2 salads. One was their regular salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber and calamata olives) and a tabouli salad. I really liked the chicken. It was skinless and seems pretty lean. Not sure about the sauce but it was good. I also had the tabouli salad. It was pretty good and it had couscous in it. Didn't finish anything but I was pretty proud of my choice. Gave Jack my other salad. It had big chunks of cucumber and tomato and I didn't feel like fighting with it.

So, normally I dread the visual paradise. The tantalizing torture of the food court. Some of these small victories build on each other and make us stronger. It's the "I think I can. I think I cans." That turn into "I know I can."
