Meeting other "bandsters" from OH

Apr 17, 2010

Today, I went to a local eatery and met up with 7 other people from the Lap Band forum from OH. It was really cool. Some were pre-op and were interested in learning more about life with the band, others were just out of surgery (29 days) and there was one person who was one month shy of my surgery date. It was the full spectrum of people represented.

I always enjoy seeing people in real time. You get to see their faces, expressions, watch how they react, etc. It's so much more real than reading what they write. People have time to think about what they write. To write things that are politically correct or that sound good. It's just different when it's live. It is so much more like a support group but... this wasn't that. It was just a get together. We didn't have a formal structure. It was lunch.

It was nice to see those who had had their surgery eat bandster size meals that were pretty healthy. I enjoyed the conversation and it always reminds me that I'm not alone in this effort to live healthy with my surgery.

Some say that the lap band is extremely different than gastric bypass and other surgeries. I really don't focus on the differences. We all have to measure portions, make healthier eating decisions and try to incorporate more physical activity into our lives as the weight comes off. It's about turning our lives around right? So, the lap band meeting was great. It's other people, like me who are living with a lap band. I also really like meeting with other WLS patients and discussing how to live a healthy lifestyle regardless of surgery type. It's all good to me!
