Only 17 days to go!

Sep 23, 2011

Unlike most posts I read from most of you, my time is NOT flying....its DRAGGING!!  I'm trying to find things to occupy my time and luckily I'm pretty busy at work but my days off are consumed with thoughts of how long its taking to have this surgery already! I'm super excited and a tad bit nervous.

I've managed to lose 20 lbs since I went to my consult appt with my surgeon about 2 months ago.  I'm pretty happy with myself for sticking to eating healthier ( I wanted to be sure I had the will power to change EVERYTHING since I will have to after the surgery and I did) but I haven't done as well as I should have in the exercise category.  Its still pretty hot around here and that keeps me from walking as much as I want to.

This past week I haven't been eating as well as I have been for the past 2 months.  Since I'm getting closer to the surgery date, I've been feeling like I won't be able to eat some of this food again for a really long time, if ever, so I want to enjoy it now.  Although I'm usually upset with myself after I eat it (like I should have more will power), I am happy that I'm not overally eating terrible things like tons of sugar or lame snack choices, I'm just eating starches (which my Dr said I need to stop due to the starches stick in your stomach and avoiding them will make the surgery process easier for him which makes a better recovery for me).  I LOVE starches!! I love bread mostly and that's been tough to avoid.  I eat subway sandwhices (with lots of healthy choices), I had mexican food the other day with corn tortillas (I avoided the flour ones).  I actually did have popcorn the other day, too.  I learned some valuable life lessons out of it all though. When I get HUNGRY...not just craving food, but actually HUNGRY....I want to eat anything that is around me for quick fix.  Since I've learned this about myself, I almost always have healthy food in the frige at work to get me through until lunch time so I don't make poor choices.  This particular day, I did not and we sell snacks at work (some are healthier than others but my eye spotted the popcorn first).  So I learned to bring LOTS of extra snacks to work and keep in mind we sell beef jerky and nuts if I'm "starving" and avoid popcorn, chips and candy.  The funny thing is, I plateaued on my weight loss (as I always have when I try to lose weight) about a month ago-despite my good habits up until last week-but my snacking and not great eating this past week has not caused a weight gain!! yay!! So, as of Monday (2 weeks from surgery) I promise to get back on track, no starches for a safer surgery, no bad, empty snacks-I will take lots of food to work to last me-and I will get back on track walking!! I look forward to seeing at least 5 more lbs come off me before my surgery!  I'm sure I will post before my surgery since I'm sooooo anxious but if not, I will be sure to post after to share my experience with others who want to hear it! God bless!!
