Eating to lose weight?

Eating to lose weight is a concept that seems to contradict the things we all learn in the beginning. Everyone "knows" that to lose weight you need to eat less, but i disagree. In many cases less is an answer, but not the whole answer. You need to eat smarter to lose weight, and that doesn't always mean less, sometimes it means more. I had my surgery on Sept 15th and I have had small periods of time where I fail to lose weight for a week or two, and it disturbed me considering what and how much I was eating. Before my surgery I had increased my metabolism by eating small portions 5 times a day and combined that eating regiment with exercise. I was eating a protein serving between meals and each meal had protein as its core and small amounts of carbs with very little fat(like i needed extra fat in a meal). I was losing weight at a good pace and I had a significant weight loss right after surgery and for the first 4 months I averaged about 17 pounds. As I enter my 5th month and the first week and a half, I have lost 1 pound. I have not lost or gained a single pound in 2.5 weeks and I discovered it was because I wasn't eating enough.I had reduce my meal intake to three a day. I am getting my protein and I am taking my vitamins, but I wasn't getting the intake my body was used to. I believe my body finally said enough and slowed my metabolism because it wasn't getting consistent intake. I started eating several times a day in this past week and lost the pound and feel like my energy level has increased again. I believe that I set my mind to believe that since the surgery less is more, but I believe we have to remember that even if our stomach is smaller, or a new pouch, our bodies still require a certain amount of nourishment to keep that fat burning furnace moving. Eat what you need and remember that even the average person doesn't live on 1000 calories or less a day.
