step 1...... check

Nov 11, 2011

well step 1 is done! we are back from edmonton, having completed 4 modules for the weightwise program. it was an adventure, to say the least. it all started on sunday nov 6 at 4:30 a.m., we called a taxi and the dude that showed up waas crazy! he drove very fast, hardly stopped at stop signs and took corners really fast aswell. james and i were sliding around in the back seat. we didnt know whether to laugh at how absolutly ridiculous the driver was or to hold on for dear life.lol. we got to the airport in one piece, and i was able to board the plane, horray! they were hesitant about my i.d., but once i pointed out my marriage certificate they were ok. so we get on the plane and WHOAH!!!! talk about tiny. only 2 seats on either sides of the very narrow aisle. there were only 12 or 13 rows. im used to there being 3 seats on either side. well, james and i were seated next to each other... oh boy! 2 big people were not meant to sit side by side on this thing! lol, it was not possible for us both to sit back in our seats at the same time. one of us had to lean forward at all time. then there was the seat belts, ya, they didnt fit. so  we had to ask for special seatbelt extensions. it was a very turbulent ride, i nearly tossed my cookies. so we arrive in edmonton, and we go to get off the plane, and guess what.... the plane didnt dock at the termional, we were out on the tarmac! and i had to take this set of steps down to get off the plane, i dont do stairs very well, nevermind while trying to carry luggage. thankfully james was there to help me down the stairs. our stay was quite nice. we were very happy with the hotel, james loved the waterslide, crazy guy i tell ya! rooms were comfy, staff was helpful, food was good, thpough a little pricey. it was like the honeymoon james and i never had! the modules/classes were ok, mostly stuff we already knew. i did find out a bit more about the whole process though. the biggest thing i took away from the classes was goal setting. ive set the goal to get more active. also i was informed that i need to start weariong a pedometer immediatly. so i am. wow i never realized just how little i walk in a day. so we got around edmonton fairly well, and did alot more walking then usual. we also did alot of swimming! yay! it felt so easy to move in the water, but boy i felt every ounce of my weight on my knees and hips when i got out of the pool.we met some nice people in class. it felt good to be somewhere that i wasnt judged by my size. we were all big people, well except for the instructor. it was such a nice break. coming home was pretty much the same as getting there, except!..... leaving edmonton, going to calgary, we walk out on the tarmac and what do we see?  a prop plane ! thats right, we didnt think it could get any worse then the way there but leaving was worse. a two propellar plane, and again we are seated next to each other. squishy! on the flight from calgary to winnipeg we were seated across the aisle from each other, and i got lucky, i was seated next to a thin woman.lol. poor james was seated next to someone his own size, so he was squished again. lol. basically the plane rides were all big reminders why i am pursuing bariatric surgery.
next step- assessment on nov 30
