My Story

I am 46 years old with 4 kids (20, 17, 7, 4).  I had my first two with my first husband.  I was divorced for 8 years and re-married in July 2004.  He didn't have any children so we decided to have two.  My 7 year old is a true blessing.  I was 5 months pregnant with him when they found I had early stage ovarian cancer.  I was very fortunate they found it.  If it hadn't been for the routine ultrasound they may not have.  It was all contained in the ovary, so not chemo or radiation.  I am now considered cancer free. 

I have been overweight since college.  I gained the Freshman fifty.  What shocks me even more is that no-one...I mean no-one said anything to me about my weight.  My sister who for my entire childhood told me I was fat (she is very tiny and petite...everyone was fat compared to her) didn't say one thing about my weight.  I know it is a touchy subject, but heck I would have gotten over it.  I continued to gain and weighed 205 pounds when I got married.  When we decided to get pregnant I went to Weight Watchers and got down to 160.  I got pregnant and gained every bit of the weight back.  I have not been below 200 since. 

My husband and I are both overweight and know we need to do something about it so we can enjoy our little ones.  They have so much energy and deserve to have us living life with them.  I began really thinking about WLS in July 2011 and started with a support group meeting.  I was hooked.  Hearing all of those positive and negative stories and how all of them would do it again...

The Dr.'s office thought I could use some of my old Dr. appointments to get approved for surgery, but no luck.  So I wasted from July - November getting all of the other requirements just to be denied.  I was very disappointed, but the more I thought about it the more I realized it was such a bad time to have the surgery (hubby started a new job out of town) that I am now focusing on surgery in June.
