Currently on 6 mont supervised diet. Is there anything I can do while doing this so that once I'm done it will be that much sooner to my surgery date?

I am currently doing a 6 mo supervised diet. I'm almost done but my doctor says I need more time and doesn't recommend doing gastric. Do I need my dr to be on board or can I get them to send the paperwork to my insurance and get it approved? If so, how
