Girl ..
I am 48 years old this August and have struggled with my weight since I was about 25 years of age and had my second child. Since about 2003 my health has been affected. I was diagnosed with, and am being treated for, type II diabetes and high cholesterol. Although my weight has fluctuated, I find it harder to lose weight as I get older and I am frustrated. The more I get frustrated the more I stress/binge eat. A year ago I set the goal of losing weight in one year, or exploring surgery if I was unable. I failed to meet the goal and I am moving ahead with surgery primarily for health reasons.
I started by attending two info sessions; one at Lahey Clinic in Burlington and one at Emerson Hospital in Concord. Currently my decision is to have surgery at Emerson and I have my first appointment scheduled for June 18th to meet the nurse practitioner, psychologist and nutritionist. I think I am choosing Dr Shen because he has the most surgeries and greatest experience of the team, but feel completely confidant in all three doctors. I also see a private therapist in an effort to reduce stress and find other ways to handle stress outside of food. She and I will be working to make changes in my relationship with food.
This site has been a resource and I thank all of you for taking the time to share and answer questions. I greatly appreciate hearing the negatives as well as the positives so I can make an informed decision.
