Nearly two years later

Aug 17, 2011

Well as I approach the two year mark since my RNY surgery, I feel the need to look back and explore this wonderful journey.  I hope that I have done my job, and that I have helped to inspire others to stay on course.  I also hope to update my profile picture, as I haven't been a blond in quite some time.....LOL
My journey will never come to an end, but feel the need to have to culminate in some way.  I have done so by deciding to ride 140km (one km for every pound that I lost).  This journey takes place in one short week.  I will meet my family in my hometown, which is exactly 140km from where i presently live.  My ah ha moment!!  I decide to not do it for not, so I have joined forces with the heart and stroke foundation.  As a survivor a heart attack, as well as having a family plagued with the condition, i felt that it was a fitting end.
Many thanks to the Obesity Help newsletter who published my story in the July newsletter.  That was a very humbling moment for me.  Thank you.

Many thanks to everyone who has been such a tremendous support to me!!

Challenges

May 03, 2011

Hello Everyone.  I've taken up a challenge.  I will be cycling 140 kms, one km for every pound that I have lost.  I will be doing this from Gatineau, Quebec to Cornwall, Ontario (my hometown) on August 28, 2011.  I believe it's important to set goals and keep ourselves motivated.  This is what I came up with.  To add to this, I've joined forces with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and have converted this goal into a fundraiser for a worthy cause.  I myself who had a heart attack pre gastric bypass and also have a family tree that is plagued with this disease, I believed that show a healthy lifestyle was that much more important.  You can visit the story on FB at https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=202044123149370
Give generously, it's a worthy cause!  Many Thanks.

Doesn't seem possible

Jan 14, 2011

When people said that this surgery would change my life, they certainly weren't kidding.  I knew it would change my physically, that's a given.......and was more than happy in accepting that fact, but as someone recently told me....i didn't expect the "LITTLE DIVA" that came out as well.  And that's not in a negative way , but was said in way of being more forthwrite in going for what I didn't really think i ever wanted but discovered along the way.
As of today, I finally finished my one year journey to becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach.  What a feeling.  It's now time to pay this wonderful gift forward and help those who want to make some changes in their lives.
I'm hoping to be a positive example, and furthermore be able to relate to those who are still obese, mobidly obese, sedentary, and struggling with nutrition.  I've been there, and I think that's the best thing that I can offer.  Experience.  We all meet those personal trainers that know the "book fitness".   And we all need those people in our lives, but I remember looking at them and saying to myself "you have no idea what I'm going through, you've never been fat".  Well I hope to change that, and finally tell someone "I've been where you've been, and I understand".

Goal!! :-)

Sep 16, 2010

I guess i never thought that it was really going to happen, but here it is.  I think in the backs of our heads at times we think it might be to good to be true that we would actually get to the weight that were are meant to be.  I know that's how i felt even though i consistently lost weight.  But here i am, 10.5 months after surgery and I've lost the whole 135lbs.  Amazing event o me.  I started the journey at 302lbs and now weight in at a slim trim 167lbs.  I'm truly blessed.  In the past 10 months i have been studying for my certification in fitness and nutrition....major steps in the right direction and hopefully be a support system for others who face the battle of the bulge.  I'm also now presently enrolling to take my certification as a yoga instructor.  Nothing better than teaching others and keeping in shape yourself.  I have started the "Sylvie needs a body lift fund"............LOL  Don't know how much support I'll get from that but always worth a try......Haha.  Continued good luck to those who are still on the journey..........think positive, stay in shape, stay healthy!!  Love Love.

This amazing Journey!

May 05, 2010

I can hardly believe it myself when I stepped on the scale this morning and had reached the 100 lbs lost mark!  Six months and one day after my journey began.  I'm still in awe.  I know that six months ago, even coming out of surgery, and of course your body still looks the same, that I still did not believe that this was possible.  But it is!!!  This is a second chance at life and I'm taking full advantage of it.  It's time to come out from the rabbit hole and poke my head out and see what is out there.  I will forever and ever be thankful to my Dr.s who supported me, and to my family and friends who have been true Rock Stars!!  I'm truly blessed.  So this is the beginning of the New Journey, happily leaving the old one behind, but always keeping in mind what it was like since it's nothing I should ever forget.

I think I'm in Awe! And feeling very blessed!

Mar 22, 2010

I have lost 73% of my total weight loss in 4.5 months.  I'm in awe and amazed all at once, and yet, the mind is a wonderous, and yet detremental thing at times.  My mind has not caught up with the body changes, and it amazes me at what other people see and what I see.  I understand it's a journey, and eventually my mind will catch up with my body!  It's starting, but very slowly.  I think we always see that "fat" girl in the mirror.  On the positive side, I do not challenge what the scale is saying anymore, and learning to accept that THIS time I DID IT!!  There is no going back.  I'm happy to say that I'm in the process of taking my certification in fitness and nutrition and hope to inspire those just like me in the very near future.  How blessed we are to have had this opportunity, this GIFT.   This surgery has been the biggest blessing, and I for one plan on cherishing it, working it, and doing everything that I'm suppose to do to have continued success!  There is NO going back.  Hugs and Kisses!!!

I DID IT!!!

Feb 06, 2010

Well I finally achieved one of my goals!  I went downhill skiing yesterday!  I have to say that I remember making a comment as I was sitting on the chair lift with my daughter and telling her that I felt so ALIVE!  What a wonderful day and what a wonderful feeling to be back to a place that I so loved all my life!

Just about to achieve two of my goals!! Woohoo

Jan 29, 2010

Well it's all set.  I'm all set to go downhill skiing next weekend, well ok, so if it can get a little milder I'll be there.  And the second one is running for pleasure.  I've just joined the "Learn to Run" workshop.  Running in the cold....Hmmm, not to sure about that, but will certainly give it a try.  67lbs down now, and feeling amazing.  It really is a new life!!!
