Going On Two Weeks Post-Op

Dec 27, 2008

Well, I'm very grateful to say that I'm one of the lucky ones who had a very easy surgery and recovery. I am grateful to those who said prayers on my behalf or sent positive vibes my way! ...I had some muscle pain the night after surgery, but the fine staff at Almater Hospital put some pain meds into my IV and I felt better within minutes. I LOVED the hospital and the staff -- I even asked if I could stay there!

When I woke up from anesthesia, I yelled "woohoo!" to the staff...within a couple hours, I was walking around, exploring the beautiful hospital.

Since being released from the hospital, I've had more energy than I had before surgery and I love my daily walks. I am glad I found a protein supplement I like that is good for the clear liquids stage, too: IDS New Whey (http://www.mysupplementstore.com/newwhlipr42g.html). I mix it with juice, Special K Protein Water, or Gatorade G2 -- it tastes good. Plus it's pretty -- when I mix it with orange juice, it looks like a tequila sunrise.....hah!

It is amazing to not have interest in food!

I'm not sure how much weight I've lost because I've weighed on so many different scales. From pre-surgery to a week post-surgery, I lost either .5 pound, 7.5 pounds, or 9.5 pounds. I will weigh again in two days on the same scale as I did a week post-op, so at least the loss for this week will be more accurate.

Hmmm... I'm sure I'm missing some information that may be helpful here. Feel free to send me a note if you have any questions.....  :)

Now I need to decide whether my wonderful husband is coming with me (he wants to) and book my/our flight.... Plus I'm moving to a new house next week.... Busy/fabulous/wonderful/life-changing times!

About Me

Oct 24, 2008

I was a little overweight as a child and am definitely overweight as an adult (except for one time in my 20s when I had prescription diet pills, got vitamin B12 shots, AND had the flu, I got down to 126 pounds for a day…woohoo!). Many pounds have gone through various diets, only to return with some extra baggage. I've been very fortunate to not have any weight-related health issues and I'd like to get rid of the weight once and for all before I have any. I used to try to convince myself that I had the will power to take off the weight and keep it off without getting surgery (I don't). Plus much of the time, I was less than 100 pounds overweight, and I always heard you had to be 100 pounds or more overweight to get weight loss surgery. …So, as wrong as it may be, I sometimes I felt like it was unfair that I wasn't overweight enough to get surgery to help me with my woes. Well, thanks to the weight-gain-and-then-some after my last diet, I am now more than 100 pounds overweight. Heh-heh… Kinda sounds like I'm celebrating. And I am in a way because I'm super excited to get the VSG procedure done. Maybe it's a blessing I wasn't ready for WLS earlier on since the VSG procedure hasn't been available for very long.

I have loved reading posts on this forum and I thank everyone who has posted—you all have helped me make my decision and to feel absolutely fabulous about it. I look forward to making some new friends during this journey. Best wishes to everyone...and thank you VERY much for sharing your journey!
