THIS IS IT!!! THE NEWS WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS!!! ALEX'S POUCH HAS SEALED!!! He is DRINKING water today for the first time in 3 months... tomorrow he will have juice, next day juice/water and on Friday hit full liquids! Imagine nothing passing you mouth for this long!!! I don't know how he did it! The floroscope showed this today and on Friday they will get rid of his TPN & pic line. His wounds are healing slowly but are not infected. Janne found him 4 pair of old shorts to wear that didn't fit him before and a pair of pants he purchased mail order but never wore because they were too small. His waist was about 79" and is about 72" now. These pants are baggy on him right now! Well - Alex has a lot on his mind with all he has gone through these past months. Since I've been at this site, I've never seen anybody go through what he has. Please leave him a congrats message and hopefully he will be here to post as he continues to gain strength! All of your prayers, support, and love you sent Alex worked! Our own miracle! Love,

On Friday, Alex woke up and his JP drain had pulled all the way out! Ooops! He was sleeping in his own bed which is comfortable for him. So he went to his doctor appt. and the doctor that saw him said something to the effect of... "Well, either you are going to get really sick or you will be alright." Gee, how fun! So far, Alex has been feeling alright. Then this morning he woke up and found that the line going to the fitting on his pic line had come out and there was blood all over. His poor wife Janne almost lost it. They got into the ER room and found out that the pic line was still okay - just needed new fittings. They got new ones at a nearby hospital. On Monday, Alex will go at 9:30am for a contrast test to see where liquids are going in him. We are hoping it will show that the leak has healed and that perhaps the reason he had a leak was that his JP drain had punched a hole in his pouch. He is feeling stronger and is more mobile. He told me that while he was going to the second hospital to get the fittings he was walking through the parking lot holding his IV bag high in one hand and holding his TOO BIG shorts up with his other! LOL! I'll write Monday night to let you know what happens! Love,

Alex had surgery on 3/29 and today saw the surgeon again and had two sceromas (sp?) -- fluid build up -- taken care of and found out that he didn't have a hernia. Yeah! The doctor numbed him up for the procedure and he didn't have any pain from it. The surgeon did back off or pull-out his JP drain about 4-5" which was a big ouchie! He is still sore in that area tonight. I sure hope it feels better. The doctor is wondering if perhaps the JP drain was poking through the pouch and that is why there has been a leak. Alex will go back to the surgeon Friday. We are hoping that there is less drainage and that perhaps this was the problem all along and he will heal up soon. He went up 5 stairs yesterday with his PT and is planning on going up the stairs tonight. He has been walking some without his walker, too. He has throughly enjoyed being home and receiving mail from you all. He has gotten out to get a haircut and to the dentist already. If you'd like to e-mail Alex and Janne - the address is: [email protected] Love,

Alex, I'm so glad you're home. However, I'm sorry to hear of your further complications. You're really being "tested" aren't you? Alex, I keep you in my prayers always. I pray that the Lord will lay His healing hands on you and make you whole and well. If I could share your burden with you, I'd do it. But all I can do is send you my sincerest best wishes and prayers. Hang in there, brother. Love, Nancy G.

Alex is FINALLY home. After 80 straight days of hospitalization, he am out!! It may not be for long. He has an appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday. His pouch is still leaking at the rate of about 1 ounce per day. He also have found a hernia along the incision line and he also has an abcess which may be a second hernia. He won't know until he sees the surgeon. Alex is still on a I.V. at home. It feeds him his T.P.N. that he survive on. A home health nurse comes out to teach, help and oversee his needs Janne is thrilled to have Alex home. Thursday was their 15th anniversary and yesterday was Alex's 51st birthday. Alex is still -130#. I will for sure make an update later Wednesday after he see's the surgeon and let you know what the plans are. Love,
