Sally I like to encourage people who have complications to post the details. Everyone considering surgery must know about them. I applaud your generosity in sharing and truly believe that someone with your spirit can only get better.

Hi all - well I continue to me one of the people who you DON'T want to read about. As you know I had my surgery March 26th but due to complications had to stay 12 days. Three days later at my 2 week post-op appt. - The Dr. told my husband that he was VERY worried about me and sent me to the Hosp. for further testing. It turned out I had Pulmonary Embolis - They got be in right away and put in a Greenfield filter - Then after a few days I developed very irregular heartbeat and I wondered if I'd get home again. I was discharged tonight - Out of the last 22 days - I've been in the Hosp. for 20 of them. I'll have to have some heart tests - Catherization and zapping the area that is firing wrong. YES - I'd still have this surgery BUT I stand here to tell all pre-ops and those that are just looking - THIS IS SERIOUS SURGERY - THINK HARD IF THIS IS FOR YOU - READ ALL THE INFO YOU CAN- God bless you all. Well- as I sit here, the last 2 weeks are starting to fade -- once I get rid of all the sores and bruises from the countless blld drawa and IV attempts. Then there's the nasty PICC-line bruise. No I didn't have it easy or textbook - but darn I'm alive and I know my future will improve - today is already better than yesterday. It all started at 2:45am on March 26th - had to be at pre-op at 5a and Surgery at 7:30am. So far so good - but they had trouble getting blood out of me and ending up getting it out of my groin. WELL - the surgeons opened me up and found a tangled mess of adhesions over my intestines. It took them an hour to untangle, remove the adhesions and a small benign tumor plus do a Bowel resection. THEN I had my Bariatric Surgery. To say my family was crawling the walls is an understatement - not knowing what was going on. Then too - I put 3-4 others behind in their surgeries - SORRY!! Then my stay went from 4 days to 12 days. Couldn't eat for 5-6 days - when I did I threw up - almost 3 days of diiarrhea-- So I become dehydrated - needing IV Nutritionishments, Lipids etc. Then I had to get a PICC line to deliver more nourishment.. I was able to come home last night Apr.7. Today is better than yesterday - and I'm sure tomorrow will be better than today. Weeks/Months down the line - I will be so forgetful of what went on but I will never be sorry for the surgery. In away it has already saved my life - I could have died in the future from a bowel obstruction or preforation and who knows if that tumor would have changed in time. Wasn't an easy trip but God was and will continue to be with me. - Sally, Harrison, Mi
