I've been reading profiles today and the before and after pics are just amazing. I have become addicted to this site and read every single post on the message board. June 20th just seems so far away. It is 44 days and a wake up until then and sometimes I honestly don't think I can make it until then physcially. This weight is killing me. It is such a struggle to walk to the mailbox now. At 29, I feel like my life is over. I'm just so depressed with life. I want this surgery so bad. I know my day will come. I've begun this journey in December. I just feel so down lately and so unhealthy. Taking a bath is a chore. It's so hard to get in and out of the tub and my back hurts so bad that I can't stand up long enough to take a shower. How I long for the day to be able to move again. All I do is lay around. My activity is my fingers typing away at this keyboard. I wish I had something else to keep my busy, but I don't even like to visit with my neighbors anymore. I don't like to be around people. I have hit my all time highest weight of 303 pounds and I feel every pound of it. If you read this say a prayer for me cuz I really need it..

Hi tabatha: I am sheryl in NM. I weighed 516 lbs a year ago and now I weigh 376. I am 9 months out and 10 cloathing sizes down.I have a big apron. I also have a hernia. I will be able to get my tummy tucked with my hernia repair. I have to loose about 75 lbs before my tt.and hernia repair. Medicare will pay for a tummy tuck if you can prove it is medically nessessary. I get a lot of ulserations under my stomach and rash. they will pay in this case. I hope this helps you. Thanks for the kind words. I hope your surgery goes well with no complications. I know what you mean about June seeming so far away. I have to keep finding things to keep me busy to keep my mind occupied with something other than the "what ifs" Good luck in your journey. I'll pray for you.

Hi Tabitha, my doctor had me on protein shakes for 4 weeks after surgery. Then 1 week of soft foods, then progress to a regular diet. He never said anything about avoiding steak, although I can't believe he will let you eat meat right that soon after surgery. As for the drain tube, I had mine in for 10 days. It does not hurt, but is a little annoying. And once it gets full you do have to empty it into the toilet. Some people get there's taken out before they leave the hospital, I have to say I haven't seen anyone have it for a month. Good luck to you. Audra in CA.

Hello Tabatha, Had my surgery on March 31st, 2003, so far have lost a total of 33lbs, eating afterwards does change, sounds like your doctor is putting you on a protein based diet which does work. You will find at first for a least the first week you will drink nothing but liquids, that's where the protein shakes come in to play, I really doubt you'll be able to eat a meat type product in that time period, I wasn't able, in fact I didn't even want to eat because it was just uncomfortable, and I wasn't hungry, after the first week I did the meats but I used a blender to chop them up fine...I didn't puree cause I couldn't get passed how everything looked and tasted like potted meat..but I did chop them up fine, and the meats I ate were: baked chicken, fish, shrimp, and turkey....I usually bake them at a low temp until they fall apart this makes it easier to chop up and also eat. but even then and now don't beat yourself up if you can't finish even the half of cup portion...that again is where the protein shakes come in to play ...if you find yourself unable to get all the protein in have yourself a shake between the meals....I sometimes have 4oz of the shake in the morning and I do the other 4oz in the evening...and you can have your veggies I do, but I do mine right now with V8 tomato juice...in between meal times when you have your water and shakes shove you a V8 in there for just a few more vitamins...But to answer your question...yes our diets are geared toward the protein..eat the meat first then the veggies, and other carbs...the protein is what keeps the body going...besides water....drink plenty of that too....Good Luck. Jack
