18 months post op

Jul 23, 2007

Hello everyone!  I'm 18 months post op and have lost 197 pounds(and weigh 211).  I look at myself and I can't believe it is me!  What an amazing journey! My life has changed so much!  My only regret is that I wish I had RNY at a younger age.  For those out there fighting the battle to obtain WLS.....DON'T GIVE UP!  You are in my thoughts.

Boy!  The time is flying.  The weigt is coming off alot slower now. But at least it is still coming off, right?  I have to admit.....I'm not eating well like I should be.  I will strive to do better.  I'm finally to the point that I don't blame Dr. Weiss for the complications I had post op.  I know he was on top of things and probably saved my life.  I guess I had to blame someone and unfortunately he was it.  My weight is now 218.  I still can't believe it!  WLS has changed my life!  I've found I enjoy live music and even dancing.  Never would have even considered dancing before.  I'm also dating.  Yes, dating!!!  I'm having a blast!

1 year post op

Jan 04, 2007

1-05-07 Today is my one year anniversary. My total weight loss is 164 pounds. I just can't get my mind wrapped around it....164 pounds.
I started out weighing 408 pounds and now weigh 244 pounds. This is the lowest weight I ever remember being. Now, I just pray to lose the rest of it. According to the charts, my weight should be 165 pounds. I am 6'0 tall so my personal goal is 185 pounds. Of course if I reach 199 pounds I will be estatic. My skin is already sagging and I know it will continue to sag with more weight loss. Of course, I'd love to have a total body lift but doubt I will have the finances to get it. To those out there trying to get finances to pay for RNY wether it be with insurance approval or other ways....DON'T GIVE UP! IT CAN HAPPEN!!! DON'T LOSE HOPE!!!

8-10-06 It's official-- I've nowlost a total of 124 pounds! I'm so happy. Now if I canjust lose the next 124. I've bought some new protein samples and hope to find a protein I can tolerate. I'm also planning to start the treadmill soon. The doctor says I'm right on track with my weight loss and that makes me feel good. Thanks for reading. Have a great day!

SEVEN MONTHS POST OP

Jul 23, 2006

7-24-06 Hi everyone. I'm basically 7 months post op. I've lost 91 pounds since surgery. With what I lost preop, that's a total of 116 pounds all together. I know I should be thrilled. But, I am dissapointed. I thought I would lose more by now. I have to admit however that I haven't been following the diet plan whatsoever. I relocated in May and began a new job and it has totally gotten me thrown off course. I just can't seem to get back into the swing of things. Old eating habits have returned. I think I have stretched out my stomach. I seem to be able to eat more than I should. I have this overwhelming feeling of being a failure and fear I will never lose all the weight and even gain the weight I have lost back, plus more. I feel such great dispair! Sorry.

TWO MONTHS POST OP

Mar 08, 2006

3-9-06 Boy, time sure flies. I went back to see my doctor a couple of weeks ago for a pain I was having in my side. They thought it was from my surgeries where I was still in the healing process. I had only lost 6 pounds in a 3-4 week period from my last doctors appointment. I was/am so dissappointed! In the last two weeks, I've only lost 3 pounds. At first, I was only getting in about 500 calories a day and only 32 oz. of fluids and 30-40 gms of protein and I thought maybe my body was holding on to everything because what I was taking in just wasn't enough. So, now, I'm eating about 1000 cal a day with 64-80 oz. of fluids and 70-80 gms of protein. I also wasn't exercising but I joined a health club this week and plan to attend there at least 3 days a week. (I still haven't found a protein supplement that I can tolerate) I simply thought the weight would come off faster! There are those who have lost 75 pounds by the end of their first 3 months! It is easier to eat and drink now. Don't get me wrong, some foods disagree with me but I'm still in the learning process. I have to make myself drink. But, it is much easier than at my last update At times I think maybe my pouch is not as small as others or maybe I have stretch it out already. But, I could drink 5 oz. of creamed soup in the hospital without feeling full. I lost 26 pounds before surgery and since surgery 33pounds. Surely, the weight loss will pick up. I've still got 194 pounds to reach my goal.

HOME FROM SURGERIES

Feb 06, 2006

2-7-06 I'm finally back. I had my rny on jan. 5 and came home on jan. 8. two days later I spiked a fever with nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. So, back to the hospital I went for a second surgery where they found 2 abdominal abscesses. One week later, I had a third surgery where my omentum(a fatty layer that helps protect our organs)was inflammed and hard and they removed that part of it. So, I've been home for 2 weeks. Physically, I'm doing fine. But this learning to eat and drink all over again is terribly tough. I can't seem to get in enough fluids and finding a protein drink I can tolerate has been impossible. I miss being able to eat and drink normal. At this point I'm not sure it has been worth it. I know they say that everyone goes through this stage and I am willing to wait 6 months out before I make a judgement. I don't want to discourage those who are trying to have this surgery. I waited a long time and fought hard for my surgery to happen. I just never thought it would be this tough afterwards. I guess time will tell. P.S. I did lose 24 pounds when I went to the doctor for my follow-up appointment last week. I guess it's a start.
