Post Op day 3

Jun 28, 2008

Well, I made it through surgery without any problems.  Got home on Thursday afternoon and have been resting somewhat comfortably.  I have to say if it weren't for the Gtube I would be in a lot better shape right now.  But I know it's for my own good so I will just have to deal with it.  Haven't had much nausea.  Have been running a mild fever since I got home and in the hospital.  It never gets over 102 so I guess it's not a problem.  My husband is a godsend, I do not know what I would do without this man.  My mom is coming in tomorrow to help us out with our son.  Hopefully, I will start feeling better soon.  Hope everyone is doing okay.  I will post more later when I am not so loopy from the lortab.

Anxious

Jun 20, 2008

The day is almost here.  It's hard to believe that I will be having surgery on Wednesday.  I am going through a rollercoaster of emotions.  Everything from sad, happy, scared, worried, anxious, excited, glad It's crazy because I am doing this not only for myself, but for my family.  But then again, what am I doing to my family if something happens to me?  I am the caregiver, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a friend.  My dad died from cancer in February and I am praying that God would not be that cruel and take me away from my family too.  I know death is a risk factor in this surgery along with a laundry list of complications.  But then I read all of the success stories here and it gives me confidence, if just for a split second, that this surgery is going to be successful.  I am positive that what I am feeling is 100% normal.  Who would not have some hesitation going into a major operation??

Anyway, I just needed to get thisoff my chest.  I am sure the next few days are going to be even more difficult.  I am still wrestling with my decision to have this done.  It's one of those things, I want it so badly, I can taste it.  However, I am still hesitant.  I am just praying the operation goes smoothly and this time next week I am at home with my husband and son.

Pre-Op

Jun 12, 2008

I went to my pre-op appointment yesterday and boy, did I learn a lot!!  We got there about 8:30 and was there till after 2pm.   The other patients that were there are having surgery the same week as me.

We got a lot of useful information from the dietician, physical therapy, Kelli, Dr. Jawad and Sheila.  It was so much to take in in one day but they do give you a DVD to watch to give you a refresher.  They do not expect you to remember everything they go over.

My friend, Katie, went with me.  She said she learned more about gastric bypass than she thought she ever would.   She also said that it is wonderful that they go over everything in such detail.  There are no surprises.

Once were were done at Dr. Jawad's office, we headed over to ORMC for pre-admissions.  I had an EKG, X-Ray, urine sample and blood work.  I then talked to the nurse, she gave me some special soap to wash with the night before surgery and the morning of.  That went relatively quick.  I was on the road by 3:15.

So, now it's a waiting game for me.  12 days and counting!!!

Here we go...again, lol

My husband found out last weekend that he will be going to Turkey for 15 months at the beginning of next year.  My son and I will move back home with my mom to Louisiana for those 15 months.  Although I am very happy to be moving back home and having the support of family and friends, I am so sad that my husband will be gone for all that time.  He will miss 2 of our son's birthdays.  By the time he gets back our son will be 5 years old and will be starting Kindergarten when he gets back.  Hopefully, the time will go by fast.

All Testing is complete!

I had my follow up appointment this morning with the Psychologist.  She gave the the go ahead to have surgery.  I feel so much better!  So, now I patiently wait until Pre-Op!  I started my diet today.  I will be following a modified version of South Beach for the next three weeks then two weeks prior to surgery I will replace two meal with High Protein Slim Fast and eat one high protein meal for dinner. Thank goodness I have such a supportive husband.  He started the diet with me today!
