Piece of Cake . . . I don't think so!!

Nov 29, 2007

Hello everyone!

I was just thinking how people think that have weight-loss surgery (WLS) is an easy way to lose weight.  They may think it is a 'piece of cake' to lose weight if you have WLS, but that is simply not true.

My band is a tool and just like any tool, if it is not used correctly there can be problems and/or negative results.

I have heard several people say that they are just going to get the band and let the band do the work.  This is a misperception on the parts of many of us.  It is quite the opposite, you get the band and then you 'work it'!!!

For instance, I have a friend in another city and after I had lost about 50 pounds we were talking and she said she had another friend who was banded and that friend had only lost a few pounds and had given up on the band.  Well 'guess what' . . . she did not or had not been told that she has to go and get fills in order for the band to be effective in help her decrease her portions.  And also, I don't think she was exercising as well.  When my friend inquired about the number of fills she'd had, she was like 'fills?' . . . WOW.  She then made an appointment to get a fill and was able to notice right away the difference in her portions.

I said all of that to say that this process is not a 'Piece of Cake' and for those of you who  have either struggled or been successful with your band . . . what has worked or not worked for you?  What advise do you have for someone who has recently had WLS or is considering having it?

Peace and blessings to you all,

Anitra

T G I F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aug 06, 2007

Most of you have heard the term 'TGIF' and more than likely you may think the end of the week (Thank God It's Friday).

I need to change that up a little after having WLS recently.  I went yesterday (8/6/2007) for my second fill.  I explained to the technician that I  have been having problems swallowing and it seems my food is stuck in the middle of my chest.  I further explained that I can not finish a meal without have a sip/swallow or two of water.

She then began to explain to me that I will never feel full in my stomach again.  I need to understand that when I feel my food in my chest . . . I am full and should stop eating.  She went on to say that as my band is adjusted tighter, if I continue to drink the water, it along with my food will come back up - YIKES!!

Well imagine my surprise when she further explained that I was 'overeating'!!!!  I have been continually losing weight, but was 'overeating'!!!!

Well . . . after knowing that my new tagline is 'TGIF' which means 'Thank God I'm Full'!!!!

Peace & Blessings to you all,

Anitra

Making everyday a great day!

Jul 25, 2007

As I was going through my morning routine of making lunches, making beds, working out and getting ready for work, I began to think of what really makes a 'great' day great.

Is it the fact that you have your family and they are fine? Perhaps.

Is it the fact that you have enough financial resources to get the things you need?  Maybe.

Is it the fact that your boss has finally realized how valuable you are and has stated that to you and others?  Could be.

Is it the fact that you finally were able to get your dream car or dream house?  Possibly.

All of these things (and many others) are certainly great and they will make you feel good about yourself, but there is something else that truly makes the day great.

The fact that you are alive . . . makes a great day all by itself.  We need to learn not to rely on other outside infuences to make and/or keep us happy.  Just being alive should be enough to make us smile and be courteous and nice to others.  A smile is contagious - trust me I know.

I smile because I am glad that God has blessed me to be alive - no matter what state I find myself in and no matter what the day brings.

Peace and love to you all!

Have a great day!!
