Eleven Years Post Op

Dec 01, 2012

It is eleven plus years since I had my DS. I have learned so much since then. I have maintained a 120 pound weight loss with no effort because I paid attention to my body. After the DS, I no longer was able to tolerate sweets, high-fat foods, and simple carbohydrate foods. These foods caused me terrible abdominal distress in the form of deadly gas, horrible-smelling bowel movements, and abdominal pain.

I learned to incorporate probiotic foods (fermented foods in the form of fermented vegetables, fermented drinks, fermented meats, fermented fish, fermented dairy). These are the foods our ancestors consumed because they had no refrigeration. These foods are so important to the WLS patient's diet because they are predigested and ready for us to consume and assimilate. Since I learned to incorporate fresh raw foods and probiotic foods, my health has improved dramatically.

I have an annual physical every year, and so far, I have made a few adjustments with my Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, and Iron. When my doctor says to supplement, I supplement. I have found Vitamin D3 to be one of the most important vitamins. I take the maximum 5000 ius, and my levels are perfect.

I am so blessed to have had this surgery. It has made a huge difference in my life, and I  believe in it 100%. If you are morbidly obese, I highly recommend this surgery.

Since my surgery, I quit that horrible job I had, started my own business, and now I am a successful business owner of a home health agency. My company has been in operation for 6 years, and I have approximately 50 employees. I love my life. God has not only blessed me with 3 children before my surgery, but I now have a loving husband and 4 grandchildren since the WLS. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life.

If you are searching for answers regarding WLS, I hope I have been able to help you. I am partial to the DS, but if you choose the RNY, I wish you the best.
