No Longer Livin Large~

Feb 20, 2012

I still cant believe how much I have transformed since my lap band Surgery in January of 2008...I recently celebrated my fourth year out!!  I am still shrinking!  I currently weigh 145lbs.  My starting weight when I could finally weigh on a scale was 375.  My actual highest weight was just above 460lbs. (My mom had found a scale that would weigh up to 460lbs. when I maxed it out I knew I had to do something. )  I have lost a grand total of 315lbs, that over 200 lbs. more than doctors estimated I would lose utilizing the lap band surgery~they estimated I would only lose about 100 lbs~ I guess I showed them!  The one struggle for me during this whole process has been taking in and maintaining enough nutrition for my body to function properly and to feel energized.  I am a horrible patient and never can remember to take pills and honestly if I took as many pills as have been prescribed for potassium, iron, b12, b6 etc...I would be too full on pills to eat food at all!  And I still love to eat!  So I struggled with the hair loss got real pale, dark circles around the eyes, was extremely fatigued, extreme weakness...barely any strength,  stayed extremely cold...my body could not endure temps less than mid 60s...made me hurt all over! I even began to pass out from time to time which scared everyone I worked with...myself included.  I say this because I can not stress the importance of proper nutrition enough!  It took me four years to stop being stuborn and frugle to the point of neglect.  I tried the protein shakes at walmart the ones that advertise 52 grams of protein but they also had nearly 300 calories and tasted aweful so I spent $20.00 on something I never finished.  I heard about different protein supplements like the ones available at unjury.com...I tried the chicken...was not that great...and how much chicken flavored protein can one endure?

Well I have finally found a great tasting easy to follow nutrition plan that WORKS!!!  My 14 yr. old son was tipping the scales at over 330lbs. He is very active playing football, wrestling, basketball but at his size it is getting more difficult to find opponants to wrestle. As I tried every diet known to man so has he and I see him struggling I began looking for a plan that he could get excited about....as much as I am thankful for my lap band surgery I would like to spare my son, one day that may be the only option left but I do believe it should be a last resort kinda thing.  So I found this Meal replacement plan, Body By Vi,  that with two shakes a day and a well balanced meal you can shed unwanted lbs.,but it can also be a great way to build muscle mass and an excellent source of nutrition.  We sampled some and I decided it was worth the added expense if he was willing to try it and it had an added benefit...it offered me a way to get some much needed nutrition because the egg nog and chocolate milk liquid diet I was on was not giving me nutrition..it  only allowed me to curb my hunger and fill up on thousands of empty calories.

It has been 5 wks since we began this and I feel so much better, my hair is getting thicker, fuller, it just feels healthy...no longer dry and brittle, my skin looks so much better the dark sunken circles are no longer present under my eyes and I have energy to spare!  And I am not freezing to death and my finger nails are starting to come back!  I have actually lost 10 lbs. but am healthier!  And my Jim is losing inches each week.  He has lost 16 lbs. down a pant size and is still motivated to continue.
