No Longer Livin Large~

Feb 20, 2012

I still cant believe how much I have transformed since my lap band Surgery in January of 2008...I recently celebrated my fourth year out!!  I am still shrinking!  I currently weigh 145lbs.  My starting weight when I could finally weigh on a scale was 375.  My actual highest weight was just above 460lbs. (My mom had found a scale that would weigh up to 460lbs. when I maxed it out I knew I had to do something. )  I have lost a grand total of 315lbs, that over 200 lbs. more than doctors estimated I would lose utilizing the lap band surgery~they estimated I would only lose about 100 lbs~ I guess I showed them!  The one struggle for me during this whole process has been taking in and maintaining enough nutrition for my body to function properly and to feel energized.  I am a horrible patient and never can remember to take pills and honestly if I took as many pills as have been prescribed for potassium, iron, b12, b6 etc...I would be too full on pills to eat food at all!  And I still love to eat!  So I struggled with the hair loss got real pale, dark circles around the eyes, was extremely fatigued, extreme weakness...barely any strength,  stayed extremely cold...my body could not endure temps less than mid 60s...made me hurt all over! I even began to pass out from time to time which scared everyone I worked with...myself included.  I say this because I can not stress the importance of proper nutrition enough!  It took me four years to stop being stuborn and frugle to the point of neglect.  I tried the protein shakes at walmart the ones that advertise 52 grams of protein but they also had nearly 300 calories and tasted aweful so I spent $20.00 on something I never finished.  I heard about different protein supplements like the ones available at unjury.com...I tried the chicken...was not that great...and how much chicken flavored protein can one endure?

Well I have finally found a great tasting easy to follow nutrition plan that WORKS!!!  My 14 yr. old son was tipping the scales at over 330lbs. He is very active playing football, wrestling, basketball but at his size it is getting more difficult to find opponants to wrestle. As I tried every diet known to man so has he and I see him struggling I began looking for a plan that he could get excited about....as much as I am thankful for my lap band surgery I would like to spare my son, one day that may be the only option left but I do believe it should be a last resort kinda thing.  So I found this Meal replacement plan, Body By Vi,  that with two shakes a day and a well balanced meal you can shed unwanted lbs.,but it can also be a great way to build muscle mass and an excellent source of nutrition.  We sampled some and I decided it was worth the added expense if he was willing to try it and it had an added benefit...it offered me a way to get some much needed nutrition because the egg nog and chocolate milk liquid diet I was on was not giving me nutrition..it  only allowed me to curb my hunger and fill up on thousands of empty calories.

It has been 5 wks since we began this and I feel so much better, my hair is getting thicker, fuller, it just feels healthy...no longer dry and brittle, my skin looks so much better the dark sunken circles are no longer present under my eyes and I have energy to spare!  And I am not freezing to death and my finger nails are starting to come back!  I have actually lost 10 lbs. but am healthier!  And my Jim is losing inches each week.  He has lost 16 lbs. down a pant size and is still motivated to continue.

OMG~ I have lost 170lbs!!

Aug 04, 2009

I can hardly believe that I have lost 170lbs.!!! I feel great and at  1yr and 7 months out I am still losing!  People do not recognize me and I am having a blast buying clothes now!  Now my biggest concern is getting the weight off my 11yr. old.  Any one have any suggestions?  I have tried everything the biggest problem seems to be in motivating him....he seems to have given up already.

A seriously needed update

Oct 30, 2008

Hi...I am doing great.  I finally hit a corner and have steadily been losing weight at 2lbs. per week. I am down to 250lbs. from 375lbs.  I feel awesome.  I love to shop and cant wait til I hit goal so I can shop til I drop!  My only downside is my husband is not adjusting well.  It seems the happier I get the more miserable he is.  Since I can no longer eat when I am stressed or depressed I have to confront issues instead of eat thru them.  I am beginnning to understand that he was at the root of it.  He is a miserable person who can find nothing positive and I guess it is true what they say...misery loves company.  I am feeling more like me and I am by nature a happy, social person who enjoys a positive out look.

keeping busy

Jun 13, 2008

Still losing weight.  Never did call the doctor about an adjustment because I am able to get enough down to sustain.  Went through a brief depression over no longer being able to eat....it really is an addiction!  Now that I am through pouting about it I have been on a cleaning and home renovation frenzy! This weekend we are renting a some landscaping equipment to finish the yard and redesign the flower beds.  Cant wait to get everything done! --This week has been extra busy --we had vacation bible school and I helped with the pre K group.  It was a blast!

Second Fill

May 30, 2008

Well it has a been awhile since I last visited this site and quite honestly it was because I felt embarrassed by my lack of weightloss.  I started out really strong but not only did that soon slow I actually had to fight to keep from gaining weight.  I have trouble remembering things like medication and Dr. Appointments....if its about me...Amazingly I keep everyone else on track!!
Unfortunately this bad habit effected my weightloss.  I only just recently discovered I missed an apr. 22 appointment.  I was told this when I got on the scale last week and had gained 2lbs. I called the Dr. office for an appointment and was told about the missed appointment.  I didnt notice so much time had passed since my last visit!! NO WONDER!  I had my second fill this Tues. May 27.  I have lost 15lbs. since then but I think it is too tight.  I can barely keep ice chips down.  I plan on calling Monday, to see if that is normal.  Amazingly I dont miss the food but man I really miss a big glass of tea!  Oh well at this new rate of weightloss I will be out of the 3s very soon!!!

Step Aeorobics?!?!

Feb 08, 2008

A local church is offering free step aeorobics classes on Tuesday and Thurday nights. A group of teachers at the school I volunteer at started going and invited me to come. Talk about tough!! UGH! The last time I took step aeorobics was before I had children..while I was in college I took it as an extra curricular credit. I am absolutely terrified of missing the step and falling...I feel sooo clumsey and awkward, but I have been bringing my two boys with me and they are doing great--I am amazed at how fast they are catching on. Watching them benefit from it is keeping me motivated! I prefer Jazzercise--I am good at it. But if I save money by attending the free step aeorobics then I can purchase a really nice treadmill--and I really want the treadmill. OH--just wondering ---DOES ANY ONE ELSE BELIEVE THE Elipical machines are EVIL!! UGH! They must really work---within the first five minutes my thighs are burning so bad!! On thedailyplate.com I was able to figure that for my weight I burn over 1,700 calories just doing step aeorobics!!!

1st Check up

Jan 28, 2008

My first check up was Friday, Jan. 25, 2008.  Just two weeks out from lap band surgery.  According to their scales I have lost just over 11 lbs.  Just happens two days before I got my cycle so I am bloated. UGH!  Which by the way I have not had in the past few months because of my weight.  Prehaps the one ADVANTAGE to being overweight! LOL!  Any way, I was really excited about getting the first injection of saline for the band...boy was I disappointed.  He said I was doing so well that he wanted to wait another 6 wks. and see if my weight loss slows some before adjusting it.  I am ready to test drive this baby so to speak.  I dont feel like I am being restricted yet.  Although I am not eating near what I used too, it is more out of fear of the unknown than any lack of hunger etc.  Is it standard not to inject the band for so long a time after surgery?  Just curious.  But I do know at least one person who left the surgery table with the first fill.

Praying for SNOW!! :)

Jan 18, 2008

Well it is 6:15 a.m. here in northeast Alabama.  Where is the snow!?  It still sounds like we have a chance at accumalation at this point.  I pray we get a couple of inches.  The kids are so excited...they have never seen anything but a very light dusting.  I was hoping for it to be white when they work up...  My husband and I got married during the snow storm of the century March 12, 1993.   We spent our honey moon snowed in for four days  with my entire family!!  Great way to bond with the new In-Laws right !! LOL!

One week post op!!

Jan 18, 2008

It has been a week since my lap band surgery and everything is great!!  I really cant believe how fast my recovery has been.  I am already back to running errands and doing light chores.  The past couple of days I noticed I tired more easily but today my energy level has been up and I barely notice the tenderness.   I volunteered at my daughter's school yesterday and today, just to give you an idea of how recovered I really am.  OH...my wounds have already healed... 90% of the scabbing is gone and most of it already looks like the faintest of scars! I almost feel like I cheated some how...should it be this easy? Or am I just a freak?!
