first post-op doctor's visit

Feb 21, 2007

Today I was scheduled to see my doctor first time since he planted the lapband.

Since the surgery I had nothing but clear liquids and one dark evening a teaspoon of mayo. Why mayo? No idea, but it was calling my name and I just couldn't shut it up.
So anyways, eight days on clear liquids can make your stomach very angry and vocal. I can deal with angry but vocal was downright scary. I was not really that hungry, but I knew I couldn't go on like this for another week so I did hope that once I see the doctor he will put me on all liquids diet.

My doctor is so awesome I should minimize him, then clone and sell in little boxes so people could have him around all the time. Very positive guy and makes you feel so at ease that I was two inches from hugging him out there in the office because ... because I can have mushy food! And because I had no complications, andeverything went so smoothly.

So as for today, eight full days after the surgery I lost 10 lbs, I know some people lost much more but I was not on pre-op diet for more than two days and besides ten pounds is ten pounds. No complains.

My doctor said I can advance to soft food next week and then the regular food the week after. Kickass.

I came home and got myself two scrambled eggs, then put them through the food processor with some cream so they looked more like vanilla pudding. I was sure I'd scarf them down in no time even though the doctor gave me 30 min to finish the meal. I did my best but I was not able to finish the eggs! Me! The eggs won.

that was at 10 a.m. and only around 4 in the afternoon I started thinking about eating something. I mushed three and a half ounces of fish with mustard and ... I have 1.5 oz left for tomorrow. Crazy. I love my band. I love it with the heat of thousand suns.

In the evening I am going to have some blended strawberries with a dash of cream. Yum.

So all in all, everything's been G-R-E-A-T!

the surgery and afterwards

Feb 15, 2007

Tuesday the 13th of Feb was the big day, to my surprise I was not nervous, I was just cranky that I had to get up early.

We got to the surgery center right on time and the nurse kidnapped me and made me wear a gown and booties, the gown barely covered my behind so I was walking all funny trying to keep it covered and still hold my bag.

Then the nurse took me to my room, my husband came over and we were doing the papers and my surgeon came over to say hello and check how everything was going.

A few minutes later I got the IV (ouch!) and off we went. I remember the anesthesiologist telling me to breath in and out while they were putting some things on my legs to massage them while the cut me and all that.

The surgery was supposed to take about an hour but it took almost two because as my doctor told my husband (who was getting all nervous because what the hell) that they did not expect me having so much abdominal muscle and they had difficulty lifting them.

So that was it, then I heard my name, I did not want to open my eyes cause I was pretty darn comfortable and the pain was not there, the only thing was that I was thirsty but I was not allowed to have anything to drink. I begged and begged and finally my sweet nurse gave up, called the doctor and he agreed that I can just rinse my mouth. The reason he did not want me to drink anything was that he wanted to do upper GI on me to make sure everything went ok.

In the meantime I put on my wonder woman pajama pants and started doing my rounds around the floor. It was much easier to walk than I expected and the nurses were joking I am wearing them out.

After two hours or so they took me to another room where I finally got something to drink. It was one of the nastiest things ever but at that point I would drink anything. Everything looked good on the xray and they said that I just have to make sure I can drink and keep down about 8 oz of liquids every hour.

In the meantime my incisions started to hurt and I was given some painkillers which seemed to help a lot. We spent there over 10 h and I really really wanted to just go home.

And finally we did, I lied down on the sofa and the next thing I know is my husband telling me i's time to get  up to ... go to sleep. YAY.

first day of liquid diet ...

Feb 11, 2007

it started very well, some milk in the morning, strawberry shake with yoghurt and milk (no sugar dammit) later on, some water here and there and then ... it started ... my stomach turned into a beast and I was about to start licking the mustard jar, and I am not that keen on mustard  but I found a one serving packet of mushroom soup. that helped. but now it's 6 p.m. and i am hungry! my stomach is weeping (the bastard doesn't know what's coming ...) so I guess I'll make another berry shake and figure out what else can I turn into liquid ...

it's just today and tomorrow

Tuesday big day and that's it, I'll wake up skinny and healthy if I have it my way

Ack

I am not that good at blogging, I usually start at different websites and then I happily sit in the corner and wait till the mad need of blogging goes away.

Then I sigh with relief.

But anyways, I am getting the lap-band, for which I am paying out of my own pocket (grrr) as my insurance directed me to a fantastic doctor only to tell me a few days later "oh! sorry! we cover all wls except for lap-band!". Darn it.

So anyways, the big day is the 13th of February, I am out of control excited about it and simply cannot wait.

Now I am off to ask more question on the message board!
