March update

Mar 02, 2013

Went to the Drs to see about my back. She diagnosed the sciatica, ordered an MRI to see what else is going on (bulging disc or not) & gave me an Rx for PT & some meds & a recommendation for therapeutic massage.Since my backs pretty much been out/sore/ unstable all week, ive not been able to do any working out. I cant do any walking & since my bike was stolen, i cant go on any rides. This has resulted in only a .5 lb loss. Its the end of the month & i basically have a net loss/gain of ZERO for Feb. This puts me 10 lbs behind schedule. **sighs** Really feeling like life is sucking big time right now.. While i did lose 1/2 an lb, I did not meet my goal of losing 4lbs :(. Also, since im taking extra iron (Drs orders) & the probiotics & fiber isnt working needless to say - Im having issues ... elsewhere. I think thats at the root of the issue b/c when i look back at my eats & activity, they are on par. sooo... Anyways - currently drinking tea, but that doesnt seem to be helping much either & the Dr wont give another Rx for lactulose. So im pretty much at a loss & wondering WTH to do. **grr! frustrated**

Feb. check-in

Feb 04, 2013

After having a RYN GBS in 04, losing about 130lbs only to regain about 90 after going through some pretty stressful times (hitting 4 out of 5 of the most stressful things a person can experience in life), & a revision in 2012 (which didnt produce the same results as the original procedure) Im here giving ME another shot.
I am convinced that working out & hitting the right amount of cals is the only way to get this weight off & keep it off.

My overall goal here are not simple. I want to lose the weight i regained. So thats about 90lbs worth.
The best way for me to approach/ attack/ achieve that in is by setting & achieving mini goals of 8-10 lb each month.
To achieve that - I'll have to maintain a 1200-1400 cal/day diet (consisting of "GOOD" food choices) AND work out for at least 30 mins, 4-5x/week.

My first weight in w/ the Drs is set for May 10th, in which it is my PLAN to be really near the 200-210 lb range.

2013 Follow up...

Jan 05, 2013

Not feeling so great... Had a headache all day friday & woke up w/it on saturday morning. Im thinking its either due to dehydration (caused from the lemonade diet & salt water flush, & not taking in more water) and/or putting the cold turkey kibosh on all alcohol intake (NYE fast). Either way - it sucks & only goes away temporarily when i take meds for it.
Another reason im not feeling so well is that i had my annual check up w/ my WLS Dr & it did not go well. I had the GBP revision procedure (Stomaphyx) done last feb & have not been able to achieve or maintain the desired results (due to a combination of complications - not being able or willing to workout & consuming too much wine).
The result of my inaction is basically, im back up what i was last feb. To combat that, the Dr has ordered a rebooting of my system.
The goal: Lose 20lbs in 3 months
Exercise: I need to click 10k steps/day.
Diet: go back to the program liquid diet for 2 wks.
Supplements: Probiotics, Chromium, lactulose cleanse, Vit B complex + Fiber & plenty of water.
No alcohol & limited juices.
He wanted to see me back in 3 mon, but his earliest opening wasnt until May. So if my 3mo goal is to drop 20lbs, i think i should up that to 40lbs in 5 mos.
I have not completely wrapped my mind around the 10k steps/day. I can at least do 3 days at the gym maybe another 2 at home to substitute - ??
I think im OK w/ the no alcohol since ive already started that as of 1/2.
I dont really care of taking pills of any kind, so the supplements i think might be difficult.
the liquid diet for 2 wks will be another hurdle, but i at least know i can do a modified version.
i dont want to/ not trying to make excuses. Im being realistic. I really want to do this. I just dont know if i have it in me...

Day 1 on the 5DPT today

May 02, 2012

Wish me luck... no - strength! Wish me strength!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wednesday lunch gods have smiled upon me.
1) my son calls & asks if i can pick him up a burger from carls jr b/c he cant get lunch at school. They dont thave the 2 for $5 special, so I just one for him.
2) wednesday is sushi day at the office (today is wendesday, isnt it) - i love sushi & get it every week. I fought w/myself to NOT go down & get some, but since i had to leave for my son anyway - i stopped by the cafeteria on the way back in. Apparently the Sushu chef didnt show today.

Thank you God for removing those temptations. :)

Emotional eating therapy

May 02, 2012

Starting looking into therapy groups & counseling this morning for emotional eating - compulsive overeating support groups & therapists.
Found: http://www.lauralcjohnson.com/Binge-Eating-San-Jose.html that looks interesting, but shes out of network.
Also found http://www.oasv.org/ but need to do more research overall before i make a final decision.

On the 6wk challenge...

May 01, 2012

I made it to week 4 & that was about it. Havent done much with it since then, which has been at least 3wks, which is a shame because - while i was not SEEING "progress", I was FEELING progress in that i was actually ABLE to to push ups!
Like more than 1. I think i may have even gotten up to 14 in one rep! thats a HUGE accomplishment!!
I think it really just dropped off the radar b/c i was the only one doing it & really didnt have any (or much) support/ reinforcement to make me stick to it. **meaning the gf i recruited to do it w/me fizzled out after week 1 i think...**
No blame & not holding anyone accountable but myself for my own actions ... or in-actions. Just acknowledging how its easier to do stuff & stay motivated w/ ppl on your team.

Catching up & achieving goals

Mar 09, 2012

I did some digging around my old blogs & found my stats. I wanted to repost that data to catch up on it & update it in hopes of it keeping me on track & motivated.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Goal Setting:
Taking control

Purpose:

Implementing lifestyle changes that will allow me to achieve my 1st goal & lose 78-80 lbs; then my secret 2nd goal & lose another 15lbs. I realize & understand this 2nd WL journey will not be as fast or seemingly "easy" as the 1st time around w/ the GBP in 2004. Im going to have to really fight for this one & continue fighting & implementing new coping mechanisms to maintain it. I am giving myself 1 year to achieve this goal before I transition into the maintenance phase (a seperate beast all together).

How will I achieve this?:
I started this 2nd WL journey in Jan. 2012 & had the Stomaphyx on 2/6/12. Since the, Ive been on the full liquid & soft foods diets. The results have been slow but steady.
I like keeping the liquids & soft foods phase as it allows me to keep my calls in the 800-1000 range - thats working for me. I will drink more water, protein shakes, & continue taking my vitamins. I also realize that I'll probably see better results if i start exercising a few times a week. So I will take 3-4mile hikes each weekend & take the 6wk TwoHundredSitups challenge.

6 WK Challenge - 200SitUps

Mar 09, 2012

Much thanks to another blogger here on OH for turning me on to the 6 week program Two Hundred Sit-ups. I've been thinking about this program since I heard about it (earlier this week)  & keep going back to the site doing more research & taking the initial tests & now i believe I am ready to take the challenge. Today, I reached out to a few GFs on FB to see if they wanted to participate w/ me & they aggreed they would!! I signed up for the site loggers & will start this coming monday.

I half way started w/ the squats & crunches a few days ago (as the initial test), but i need to do them again in "good form". I also realized i could do this just about anywhere & anytime - say for instance, doing squats while waiting for the Dr in the exam room or at Ps violin lesson :) So im excited!

www.twohundredsitups.com
The two hundred sit ups training program designed to improve core strength and physical fitness The program involves the following various challenges (listed along the left side of the page):
-200 situps (crunches actually as Ive got a lower back issue)
-100 pushups
-150 dips
-200 squats
-25 pullups (I know i cant do 1 right now, let along 25! lol but this will have to wait till the weekend when i can get on a trail)
Its a 6 week stretch where you do X amount of the excercise in Y amount of sets 3 days/week. Im going to stick to the mon/wed/fri schedule suggested on the site. By the end of the 6 weeks, you should be able to do all 200 (or whichever) of the excercise.
