*** One week Pre- Op - 406 lbs.

Oct 17, 2006

Well, I had my last appointment with the surgeon today before surgery. I'm down another 19 pounds since my last visit, so I'm within 6 pounds of where they told me I needed to be before the surgery date. Rosa says that as long as I'm not a lot over the 400 mark, I'll be ok, but I'll feel much more comfortable if I could just hit that 400 mark and be done with it. So it looks like I'm going to be doing what I can to hit the treadmill as much as possible this week. Only 8 more days until the surgery, and I'm sure these will feel like the slowest eight days of all of them.

All my pre-op stuff has been a roller coaster. After thinking that I would be waiting for 6 months or so to be approved for the surgery, I was approved in less than a month. Then I found out that I had to have the surgery done within 3 months of the approval, or have to go through the approval process again and risk them saying no the second time.
I was happy that it was moving faster, but the financial constraints concerned me.
Then, after getting the financials figured out I got a call telling me that my insurance has a cap on how much they will pay for WLS. That meant my out-of-pocket was going to go up another $2000.00. I got that figured out, and though a little stressed, it worked out just fine.
Then I went to my last dieticians appointment to be told I had to be below 400 by the date of surgery, otherwise they wouldn't perform the surgery. That stressed me a little, until I saw that I had lost 15 pounds already, so it was only 25 more to go in a six week period.
Then today, I got a call from Fresh Start telling me that they would like to move my surgery up by another week, meaning that I will be having surgery on June 14 instead of June 20. Again, I'm happy that it's sooner rather than later, but that gives me one less week to lose the weight needed.
God Bless Rosa with Fresh Start Bariatrics. I think she dreads calling me now, just because she's afraid to add any more stress to the situation, but she's been wonderfully supportive and has kept me notified of everything rather quickly. She even agreed to meet me after work tomorrow to deliver the protein supplement drinks so that I wouldn't have to drive the 50 miles from my house to her office to get them.
Of course now, knowing that I'm only three weeks out, the nervousness is starting to set in.
Will I lose the weight I need to before surgery?
Will there be any complications?
Will the surgery be successful?
I'm sure those of you who have had WLS have had those same nervous feelings. But one fact does remain, I'm excited about having the surgery and excited about the changes in my life that are about to happen.
