Surgical Weight Loss at Fountain Valley Regional

"The hospital was very clean. The staff very knowledgable and professional and personable. The floor was specific to bariatric patients so I was just placed on a med surg floor with general medical and surgical patients so I felt my care was a lot more attentive and personal. That made the stay great."

Mir Ali

"I really like Dr. Ali. When we met, he was very to the point. He took time to listen to and answer all my questions. He didn't seem suprised by anything I asked. He was open and honest. He did stress that my success not only depended on the surgical part, but my compliance with the diet and lifestyle afterwards. He was very careful with my care before surgery making sure that everything was in order before he even decided to operate. I had a problem with reflux and a hiatal hernia on my Upper GI series. He sent me to have an EGD to follow-up about that and once the two doctors talked, he explained everything to me and when the Gastrologist ok'd me. All was clear. His office staff is ok. Perhaps not all of them are as personable or friendly as you would like. They are direct and to the point and expect you do fully do your part as they do theirs. They are firm about aftercare including appointments, meetings, and aftercare instructions and diet. This is a very structured program and they don't take it lightly. He addressed the risks of surgery very honestly. I asked him if he had ever lost a patient after they had bariatric surgery and he honestly answered yes, but reassured me that it was because of other underlying medical problems not related to the surgery. I felt comfortable because he was very honest. I also asked what was the complication that usually caused death in bariatric surgery deaths and he again honestly explained it. The number one problem is usually Pulmonary Embolism. He was very careful to explain how you can help to avoid it. I did not see him after surgery, but he did call my husband and told him everything went well. I didn't expect to see him because I was in the hospital for New Year's. I did see his PA who was equally wonderful. I prefer his surgical competence over a bedside manner anyday. However, Dr. Mir Ali was WONDERFUL!"
